James Friedman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lambie Funeral Home - Philadelphia on Feb. 23, 2026.
James Martin Friedman, age 80, known by many as Jim, went home to be with the Lord on February 14, 2026. Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late Martin & Violet (Romig) Friedman. Jim grew up in Douglassville, PA and graduated from West Chester University with a Master's Degree in Music Education. Prior to that, he graduated from Boyertown Area Senior High School in 1963. He taught music at Phineas Davis Jr High School in York, PA. Jim was a jazz keyboard artist and worked in New York City as well as other venues in the local area. He also played the organ in various churches. His first picture frame gallery was in St. Peter's Village and later opened the Coventry Picture Framery on Rt. 100 in Pottstown.

After he was saved Jim enjoyed sharing his love for the Lord with others and had a Bible study in his home. After attending Calvary Chapel in Philadelphia, he was asked to begin a Calvary Chapel in Lancaster. One of the greatest joys in his life was seeing someone come to the saving knowledge of Christ. He loved sharing God's word with others including those in prison and the Waterstreet Mission in Lancaster. Jim served his church and community for over 30 years. Jim loved his family, traveling to Israel and teaching, but most of all he loved the Lord Jesus.

Jim is survived by his wife Connie; his son Matthew and wife Dorothy and his three grandchildren - Nathan, Sarah, and Caleb; and his daughter Heather, wife of Randy Abell. He was predeceased by his infant daughter Jennifer Lynne. He also leaves behind his beloved Himalayan cat Khloe Cosette.

A celebration of life will be held at Calvary Chapel of Lancaster (130 Tennyson Drive, Lancaster 17602) on Saturday, February 28th at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Calvary Chapel of Lancaster.
