Carthage - Waltraud E. Purdy, 85, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026, while at Carthage Area Hospital.

Per her wishes, there will be no services.

Waltraud “Wally” was born on March 31, 1940, in Telgte, Germany, to the late Richard and Randi (Madsen) Woeckener. Her family travelled to and settled down in Middletown, New York, during her early teens. After graduating from Middletown High School, Wally went on to marry the love of her life, Frank, and raise her two daughters, Donna and Dora.

She is survived by her daughter, Dora (Floyd) Smith of Black River; her grandchildren, Christina (Jonathan) Taylor, and Michael (Lisa) Smith; her great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Gavin, Michael, and Joseph; and her two sisters-in-law, Charlotte and Janet.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank; a daughter, Donna; and her siblings, Erna, Mabel, Richard, Siegfried, and Muriel, all of Middletown, New York.

Wally had a deep passion for creating, often doing what she could to keep her hands busy. Whether it was painting or crocheting, she was dedicated to her crafts, and much of her enjoyment came from sharing them with her loved ones. Most of all, she enjoyed spending quality time with her children and grandchildren.
