Sally E. Collette, 86, passed away peacefully early Friday morning, March 6, 2026, at the Hospice House of Jefferson County, Watertown, while surrounded by her beloved family.
Born on October 5, 1939, in Carthage to the late Cyril and Marion (O’Dett) Evans. Sally grew up in Natural Bridge NY and attended Carthage Central School District.
Sally married Douglas E. Collette on April 30, 1960, at St. James Catholic Church in Carthage. They shared four children Daniel (Penny) Collette, Deborah Woods (Garth Monica), Diana (J.R.) Chamberlain and Denise (Derrick) Kiggins. Also surviving are her grandchildren Kylie Woods (Michael Church), Dana Woods, Bryana (Tim) Anson, Morganne Kiggins (Kate Blais), Zayne (Caitlyn) Bridge, Brandon (Sintia) Marshall, Taylor Wheatley, Brooke Marshall, Matthew Monica and Caroline (Daniel) Boudreau. She is also survived by her brother Lawrence (Pat) Evans and 14 great grandchildren.
Aside from raising her own children she also, throughout her life, took in family and friends in need and always made it clear that her door was always open. Sally dedicated her entire life to taking care of children and stated that she wouldn’t have had it any other way. She often said that her grandchildren were her entire world. Sally also owned and operated her own video rental shop from her home in the late 80’s and worked as a cook at the Pastamore Restaurant from 1990-1999.
Sally was the true Matriarch of her family. Her strength, compassion and her cooking brought everyone together and helped to make every Holiday, Birthday and family (Sunday) dinner so special and memorable. She brought forth traditions that will forever be cherished by her family. She leaves behind precious memories and a true legacy.
She is predeceased by her husband, Douglas Collette, her granddaughter Zoey Dobransky and her siblings, Rhoda Simser, John “Jack” Evans, and Jane Bell.
The family will be holding a celebration of life for immediate family only. There will be a Spring burial held at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by the Lundy Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., Carthage, NY.
In memory of Sally the family is requesting that all donations be made to the Hospice House of Jefferson County 1398 Gotham St Watertown NY 13601 (315-788-7323).
