Dr. Shepard was the only rheumatologist in the Midwest back in the mid 1970's who looked at me as a toddler and realized I had juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. He guided the treatment all through my childhood, from the worst the JRA had to offer until it went into remission in the early 80's. For that, I'll always be grateful.
I have yet to find a rheumatologist on his level. It was meeting with a new rheumatologist today that got me thinking about Dr. Shepard, and brought me to this page. Sad that such a great man died so soon, but not before he changed lives for the better.
