Ruth Lois (James) Doty

Lansing - Our Good and Faithful Servant passed away on Friday, November 9, 2018 at the age of 97. Ruth was born in Detroit, Michigan to the late William and Emma (Shaffer) James on November 30, 1920. She graduated from Cooley High School and furthered her faithful journey at the Cincinnati Bible Seminary where she earned her Bachelor's Degree. During school she met the love of her life, Brant Lee Doty; they were married in 1943 and spent 53 years devoted to their family and faith. They moved to Detroit where he ministered at the Memorial Church of Christ and she was a Sunday school teacher. Their faith eventually moved the family to the Lansing area, where she began her career for the State of Michigan as an Auditor in the Treasury Department. She volunteered countless hours with the American Red Cross and their second family at the Great Lakes Christian College, where her husband was the Chancellor until his passing. She was a giving woman who always made time to help others with whatever they needed.

She is preceded in death by her husband Lee, three brothers, two sisters, and her daughter Elizabeth "Josie" Broene. She is survived by her children, Sally Garman, Margaret "Peg" (Brian) Athy, Brant Jr. (Karna) Doty, and Timothy (Louise) Doty, son-in-law Robert Broene, 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, November 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at South Lansing Christian Church, 6300 N. Aurelius, Lansing with Pastor Frank Weller officiating. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Lansing Chapel 520 E. Mount Hope Avenue, Lansing. Visitation will continue Monday at 10:00 at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Doty Scholarship Fund at Great Lakes Christian College.

Ruth was the first supervisor I had when I went to work for the State of Michigan in 1978. She lived by example and was a wonderful friend. We kept in contact even after she retired. I am sorry for your loss. But this is heaven's gain and she had a marvelous life while here on this earth. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Ruth was my client but more importantly my friend. We spent countless hours laughing, praying and even an occasional outing together. Dear Tim, Louise, Brant, Karna, and the rest of your family, Fred and I were saddened to hear of Ruths death. We rejoice that she is at home in Heaven with Lee. We remember both Ruth and Lee with great fondness. They showed us how to live our Christian faith wisely and well. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Im so sorry to hear of Ruths passing. I knew her from swimming at the Y and she and my parents knew each other from there and being active in the local AARP chapter. She was a great person and will be missed.

Mrs. Doty was a special lady, she will be missed. She lived out her faith, and was a example to me and many others. I am happy she is at home with Jesus now and we will see her again one day. Your family is in my prayers.
