I just learned of Steve’s passing today when trying to reach him on his cell # l had for him; hoping to catch up after losing touch for several years. Last talked with him shortly after his relocation to FL, and prior to that- an Orioles game on his birthday 2011.
My very sincere condolences to his family and partner Robert.

Steve & l were close friends in Baltimore. He taught me to Box, and we’d practice together once or twice a month; ‘Boxer’ was my nickname for Steve. I remember he told me his Pop taught his brothers & himself Boxing when growing up.
I also remember all the Marathons he ran and the weekly practicing & training; an unbelievable athlete!

Unfortunately we lost touch, however l do remember his constant smile, and that ‘Deer Look’! Always a very pleasant & humble great-natured guy. He will surely be missed by all whom had the pleasure of being his friend!!
Rest In Peace my friend, I will dearly miss you. God bless.

My condolences to the Avelleyra family and all who loved Steve.

I knew Steve at UMaine and for many years to follow sharing adventures on the Maine coast, in Dayton, FL, and New Year's in NYC. They are memories I hold dear.

Rest well Steve. Thank you for the laughter.

Peace,

Steve filled any room he walked into with laughter and energy. Such a good friend who always made others feel welcome and accepted. Time spent with Steve was time spent in the sunshine. You are missed Buffo.

Steve. What a gracious man filled with so much spirit. I will always remember Steve because of his smile and positive energy. He was so full of life and always brought smiles and laughter to those around him. He was a very loyal friend if he considered you his friend! You will be missed my friend......I wish you were here so that I could tell you that Brittany Spears story.......just one more time. Rest easy, dance with the angels....until one day we meet again. xoxo

What I will miss most about Steve is his love of life and laughter. He was a great friend and my clarinet buddy at Walter French and Everett. Going to miss him dearly. Love and prayers to Steve's family and best friend Robert Shores.
