Curtis Wilkinson Obituary

Curtis R. Wilkinson (Sonny Boy) LITTLEFIELD-Sonny loved to travel .. Curtis R. Wilkinson left for his Heavenly journey on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life on Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at 10 a.m., at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Littlefield, Texas. Wilkinson was born on April 16, 1925, in Lockney, Texas, to Curtis R. Wilkinson, Sr. and Annie Jane Wilkinson. His stepfather, Frank Pavelka raised Curtis from the age of two. Wilkinson spent his youth in Olton, Texas. He started school in the fall of 1931 and graduated from Olton High School in 1942. He once quoted My days in the Olton public schools were some of the very best I've ever had! In Sept. of 1942, Curtis bummed a ride to Austin with Lois and Fat (Clark) Turner and entered the University of Texas as a freshman. During his freshman year, he joined the United States Marine Corps. After his freshman year, he attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. He completed a Marine-Navy Officer Training Course and then spent time in the Pacific Area during World War II. Returning back to the states he graduated from Southwestern University with a BBA Degree in May of 1947. Wilkinson graduated from the University of Texas Law School in 1950. At that time he returned home and was elected Lamb County Attorney. In 1951, he served in the Korean War as a legal consultant. After returning to Littlefield, Wilkinson served as Lamb County Attorney for thirty years, then county district attorney for ten years. Wilkinson was in private practice from 1990-2008. Curtis married Betty Timian Wilkinson on March 15, 1953. (Never believed I would marry a Littlefield girl!). Curtis and Betty traveled all over the world, including all fifty states, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand. He loved people and never met a stranger. He especially loved children and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He truly enjoyed helping others and respected everyone. Wilkinson is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Druanne Honeycutt and husband, Brian, Lori Pratt and husband, Kelly, Sally Gibson and husband, Chad; grandchildren and spouses, Chad and Aimee, Ryan and Heather, Lance and Natalie, Micah and Krystan, Jason and Katie, Coby and Laura, Chris and Alyssa, and Luke; and great-grandchildren, Cooper, Emma, Hays, Hadlee, Harlow, Emerson, Harper, Cade, Blake, Cason, and Ayzlee. Wilkinson's grandsons and great-grandsons, Chad Gray, Coby Campbell, Chris Campbell, Micah Pratt, Luke Gibson, and Cooper Gray will serve as pallbearers. The entire family would like to thank the staff of Gentiva Hospice, Sherri and Susie, for their loving care, and also to the wonderful staff at Library of Legacies, because daddy was treated with love and respect at all times. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Littlefield EMS. Arrangements are under the personal care of Hillcrest Funeral Home in Littlefield.
