Dallas Baugh Obituary

Dallas Wayne Baugh DALLAS-Dallas Wayne Baugh, 81, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, in Dallas, Texas. He was born in Rule, Texas, March 9, 1935, the youngest child of Ernest Hubert Baugh and Ruby Evelyn Skruggs. Dallas attended school in Rule, Texas, graduating in 1953. Shortly after graduating, Dallas married Carolyn Kay Smith. The pair moved to Austin where Dallas attended the University of Texas where he graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education. After graduating, Dallas returned to Rule where he coached several of the local high school and junior high teams. In 1959, Dallas was living in Texas City, Texas. He was hired by World Book Encyclopedia of Chicago, IL, as an Area Manager. Dallas received successive management promotions every year until 1968, when he became a Branch Manager sending him to live in several cities: Chicago, IL, Los Angeles, CA, Lubbock, Texas, and eventually Dallas, Texas, where he became the longest serving Branch Manager with the firm. His branch was responsible for selling over 100,000 sets of World Book Encyclopedia. He ended his career as Executive Director of External Promotions, working out of Columbus, Ohio. Mergers and acquisitions resulted in World Book being disbanded in 1995. His many friends and associates used different words to describe him, but they all readily agree that he was a human dynamo! A bundle of energy who always had the time to assist and encourage others. His contagious enthusiasm and perpetual positive attitude made people believe they could do the impossible. Beloved by many and always the life of the party, Dallas will be remembered as having an undying passion for sports and card games. He always had a trick to share and joke to tell. His smile would light up a room and his story telling entertained everyone. Dallas is predeceased by his son, Larry Wayne Baugh; his parents, Ernest and Evelyn Baugh; two brothers, Douglas Ray Baugh and Doyle Madison Baugh and one sister, Erma Baugh Arnett. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Smith Baugh; and two children, Roger Lane Baugh, Brenda Baugh Heard and her husband, Kenneth Roy Heard; and grandchildren: Dylan Cesare Fernandez, Frances Jade Fernandez, Andrew Kenneth Heard, Carolyn (Carly) Louise Heard and Matthew John Heard. Service and reception will be held on Friday, Nov. 25, at 12 p.m. at Sparkman Hillcrest in the Northwest Highway Chapel and the L.N. Sparkman Family Lounge.

Oh my goodness. I am so sad. Dallas was on my mind today even though I have not seen him for almost 20 years. I met him in the late 1980s when we were trying to win encyclopedias for our school in Dallas, Texas. I remember his grief at the sudden death of his son. In the 1990s we made a promotional video for WB together and even flew to the Chicago headquarters for a meeting. He was a mighty force and I loved and respected him like a father. I know he is surely missed by his family and friends. I am so sorry I did not keep up with him more closely.

Dallas Baugh was the Girls Basketball Coach in HighScool at Rule TX. I loved him as a Coach and he was kin to one of my dear High School friend's. LaVelle Baugh. He was kind, gave me encouragement playing Basketball and often his wife Carolyn would ride with us on the School Bus to the games. He was an inspiration for me and I respected him and his family. I am so sad that he had to go, but I know he will be with God. I graduated in 1959. I pray you have peace and comfort during your loss. God Bless the family and I am proud to have known him! Please accept our condolences for the loss of Dallas. My father JT Sego was a good friend of his. I grew up hearing about football rivalries and the days gone by in Rule and Rochester. I am giving my father this news and I know he will be saddened .
