Darwin Bannister Hobbs BROWNFIELD-Celebration of life services for Darwin Bannister Hobbs, Sr. 89, will be 10:30 am, Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the Primitive Baptist Church, of Brownfield with Wayne Venable officiating. Military honors will be rendered in the Terry County Cemetery under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City. He died Sunday, June 18, 2017 at his residence. He was born to the late Emory and Mabel Freeman Hobbs , June 29, 1927 in Fluvanna, Texas. Raised on the farm in Ropesville, he attended Texas Tech University before serving in the U. S. Army in Germany during the Korean Conflict. His family settled the community of Sligo in 1956 where he battled the sands of west Texas farming and raising his family. He married Lela Tanner November 25, 1954 in Brownfield, he also worked for the Yoakum County Sheriff's Dept. as a jailer for 10yrs under Sheriff Rice. He was preceded in death by a brother Merlin Hobbs, a sister, Lillian Gryder and a sister in law Nell Hobbs. Survivors include his wife of the home; four daughters, Diann Peeler & Royce of Denver City, Vinita Hobbs and Brenda Smith both of Seminole, Mary Ann Mahler & Wayne of Seagraves, two sons Marvin Hobbs & Violet of Denver City and Darwin B. Hobbs Jr. & Paulette of Hallsville MO., sixteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6-7pm, Tuesday at Ratliff Funeral Home of Denver City.
