I was a mechanical engineering student at Texas Tech from 1970 - 1974 and was privileged to have Dr. Duane Jordan for several classes during my junior and senior year. We were very fortunate to have Dr. Jordan and others in the department as teachers and mentors. When you were assigned to a class with Dr. Jordan it was always with the feeling of "this is going to be tough. be we'll for sure learn something". Dr. Jordan's brand of tough love in the classroom is one of my fond memories of being a mechanical engineering student during those times

I joined TTU mechanical engineering in 1987, some 20+ years after Duane had joined the ME department. He provided me with many years of mentorship, which was instrumental in building my career through many relationships I developed as a result of Duane introducing me to members of the ASME Operating Board. When Duane retired, I ended up getting his office, which I still occupy to this date. As he was vacating his office, he jokingly told me that he even left me a thermometer with its sensor installed on the exterior side of the window, so I can tell what the outside temperature is sitting in my office. I guess that was before "Siri" days....Lol. I'll surely miss Duane... May he rest in peace.

PS: The old wooden-frame thermometer Duane had installed in his old office still works perfectly and I look at it all the time to see how cold/hot it is outside. It will be a great reminder of Duane and his kindness for me.
