Jack McPhaul Obituary

Jack David McPhaul LUBBOCK- Jack David McPhaul was born on Sept. 11, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas to Louise (Jackson) and J. D. McPhaul. He graduated Lamesa High School in 1954 then went on to graduate Texas Tech College in August 1959 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. While at Tech he was a member of the band and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity. He married the love of his life, Marilyn Carmack, on June 30, 1960 in St. John's United Methodist Church garden in Lubbock. The young couple initially settled in Lamesa. He started farming and ranching in Borden County in 1962 and they relocated there in 1974 to raise their three girls. Jack was always an active member of his community. He taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and was a lay leader at First United Methodist Church of Lamesa for many years. He served on the Borden County School Board for nearly 18 years, stepping down in 1992 before moving out of the county. After retiring from farming and ranching, Jack and his wife moved back to Lamesa in 1993. He then began a new career by obtaining his real estate license. Both Jack and Marilyn were active in the Lamesa Community Players where he was a jack of all trades: actor, director, board member, crew member, and even janitor when needed. When he and his wife moved to Lubbock in 1997, they both became active members of St John's Methodist Church. Jack sang in the choir and served on the Louise Underwood Art and Lecture Series committee. He also performed with the Lubbock Chorale choir for a season and remained active in several business ventures. He had a profound love of God, family, and home. He enjoyed music, especially classical and jazz, as well as reading and visiting the Pacific Northwest. He always cared deeply for animals. His body was donated to Med Cure to help Alzheimer's and Parkinson's research. His ashes will be spread along the Oregon Coast. Many thanks to Dr. Brad Snodgrass and Dr. Mounir Borno and staffs for their vigilant care. A special thank you to Hospice of Lubbock for their loving care and respect, especially Dr. Brown, Nicole, and Candace. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Pauline, sister Linda, and daughter Kelli. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marilyn; daughter Heather and her spouse Linda of Westlake Village, CA; daughter Jacquelyn and her spouse Greg of Austin, Texas; brother Tracy and his spouse Nancy of Tyler, Texas; and beloved dog Ally. In lieu of flowers, suggested memorials are the American Heart Association (heart.org), Hospice of Lubbock (hospiceoflubbock.org), and National Public Radio (npr.org/stations/donate).A memorial will be held at St. John's Methodist Church (1501 University Ave, Lubbock, TX 79401) on April 25, 2015 at 11 a.m.

Seems like yesterday we were having Christmas at Polly and J.D.'s. I always enjoyed sitting next to Jack and listening to him talk about how things were on the farm. I especially enjoyed when he would smoke his pipe. Heaven is a richer place now. Love you all. Mike Crawford

Our hearts are filled with sadness at Jacks passing. He was a good friend and a great person to work with. We will always remember Jack and Marilyn stopping by our house to bring food while Dave was healing from surgery. Many prayers and love to the McPhaul family.
