James Posey Obituary

Lubbock- James (Jim) Leroy Posey entered this world December 30, 1938, as the firstborn of Virginia Wahl and George Leroy Posey at Isabella, Oklahoma. He departed this life on September 1, 2017, in Lubbock, Texas. Visitation with the family will be 5 to 7 P.M. Monday, September 4, 2017 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview. Private burial is scheduled at a later date in Plainview, Texas, with Jerry Wilson of Southcrest Baptist Church of Lubbock officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Kornerstone.

Jim attended public schools in Oklahoma and graduated in 1956 from Okeene (OK) High School. While in high school, he was active in Future Farmers of America and earned many awards while participating in this organization. Although Jim was not a farmer by trade, he owned farms and enjoyed working with his tenants to make the farmland beautiful and productive.

Jim married Janice Vise of Tulia, Texas, on December 21, 1962. They established their home in Plainview, Texas. Jim entered the insurance business on October 21, 1963. He sold life, health, and annuities for Great American Reserve, was a member of the Million Dollar Round table and earned many individual production awards. Jim and Janice enjoyed many company trips sponsored by Great American. In June of 1964, Jim became a Property and Casualty agent and partner with the Morgan-Eaves Agency. He received the Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) Degree from the American College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, in 1978. On November 01, of that same year Jim established the Jim Posey Agency of Plainview as a Multi-Lines Insurance Agency. On August 10, 1981, he purchased the Potts Agency of Olton to sell all lines of insurance. His wife, Janice, became a partner in the business in November 1981. In December of 1989, they purchased the Woods & Davenport Agency and merged it into the Jim Posey Agency of Plainview. He was an active agent until he sold that business January 1, 2007. At that time, Jim became an Insurance Consultant and was part owner of LJ Insurance until that agency sold in 2016.

Jim was active in the Independent Insurance Agents of Texas and Texas Association of Financial Advisors. He was a past president of the Plainview Life Underwriters Association and served that organization as secretary-treasurer for more than 20 years. He was also a Realtor. Jim was a member of the Plainview Lions Club with more than 50 years of perfect attendance. He was a Melvin Jones Fellow and had held most every office in the local club. He established the Lions Pancake Supper and was chairman of that fundraiser for 40 years. Jim was a Scoutmaster with Dr. Delbert Hess for Boy Scout Troop 252, which was sponsored by the Plainview Lions Club. Jim was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award from the South Plains Council of Boy Scouts of America. He was inducted into the Haynes District Class of 2001 Hall of Fame on February 10, 2001. Jim was a sponsor of a Car Club for young Plainview men back in the late 60's. Jim was a past member of the Salvation Army Board. He was a past member and secretary of the Plainview Wayland Board of Development. His biography was in the 1972 edition of Personalities of the South.

Jim's life was centered around his church and its activities. He was a past Sunday School Superintendent and Chairman of Deacons at College Heights Baptist Church. He also led College Heights in a remodeling and building campaign. Jim was a past member of the Executive Board of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. At the time of his death, he was a member of Southcrest Baptist Church of Lubbock, Texas.

Work hard was Jim's motto and his hobby was fishing. He enjoyed many fishing excursions around Texas, Oklahoma and Mexico. He also enjoyed a trip to Alaska to salmon fish. His grandsons were his pride and joy. One of his proudest moments was seeing his oldest grandson, James Bradford Lord, obtain the rank of Eagle Scout and his youngest grandson, Brendan Carl Voss, receive numerous awards both academic and athletic, and surrender his life to the ministry. Jim and Janice traveled to see their grandsons participate in as many of their activities as possible and were very proud to be included in several of the Family Weekend activities at both the University of North Texas and Texas Christian University.

Jim is survived by his wife Janice Posey of Lubbock, Texas; two daughters, Jana Lynn and Brad Lord of Peachtree City, Georgia; Jeana D' Lynn and Vaughnie Voss of Plainview; Kevin Lloyd Posey of Norman, Oklahoma. Two grandsons James Bradford Lord of Peachtree City and Brendan Carl Voss of Fort Worth, Texas. The family is grateful to Dr. Scott Badgett of The Badgett Group and the staff of Lakeridge Nursing and Rehabilitation for their care of Jim.

He was preceded in death by his parents, all four of his younger brothers, and a son.

The family suggests memorials to the Plainview Lions Club, Happy Feet of Soroptimist International of Plainview, Covenant Health Plainview Auxiliary or a charity of choice.

Jim was a wonderful man and I always could count on him to help usher at FUMC as long as his health would allow. It was a pleasure to be around Jim and his smiling helpful personality. George & Linda Reed
