I am so sorry Don, to hear of your brother's passing. I knew James when I was a volunteer at the Albuquerque VA Hospital. I know we met a couple times when you transported your brother. There was a group of us that sat on the patio and visited. I always got in trouble as a Volunteer because I spent way too much time with James and Kelly. We called ourselves the Patio Cartel and part of our group was Kelly Baggett and Jack Russ. I loved James and his sense of humor. He always made me laugh with his straight forward look at life. I have so many memories to share from our friendship over the past 9 yrs, too many to write here. Every time he came to Albuquerque, he would call me so I could pick up "Corny Dogs" for us to share at the VA. I only ate them with James when he came to town. They just won't be the same. I remember visiting James at his home a couple years ago. I drove over during the holiday break and stayed with him, so we could get caught up. I was so impressed with his collections. I hope his grandson will enjoy them as he had. The last time I spoke to James was back in February, I believe. I called every few months to check on him and he was so upbeat and excited his wounds were healing with Hospice. Even his breathing and voice were much stronger that last time. Unfortunately, I called today to see if James was alright in the Lubbock flood, but when he didn't answer, I did some checking and see I was too late to say goodbye to my friend. I will miss him very much, but am so happy that I was there at the VA to meet him and become his friend. He was truly a very special person and I feel so blessed to have been a small part of his life. Save journey my dear friend.
