His family will host a time of fellowship and remembrance from 6:00 to 9:00 PM, Sunday, January 24, 2021, also at Lake Ridge Chapel. He passed on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at UT Southwestern Hospital in Dallas. In support of the health of everyone, face coverings are mandatory while attending the services. The service will be live-streamed at www.memorialdesigners.net, where you are encouraged to sign the virtual guestbook and share memories and expressions of sympathy.

On March 19, 1968, Joe was born to Aurilano, Sr. and Esmeralda Salas in Lubbock, TX. Joe was a mechanic by trade, having graduated from The Phoenix Institute of Technology in 1989. He worked for several years at Alvins Automotive and later transitioned into truck driving. Joe lost his vision seeing only shadows later in life, but he never let that deter him from what he loved to do. He fixed cars and large mowers to keep him occupied. It was often that he would never charge a thing if they were friends of his siblings or if someone just needed a helping hand. In Feb. 2020, after being on the transplant list a year to the date, Joe received a kidney from his brother David, who sadly passed from an MI. Joe was the life of the party at any gathering. He was the rock of the family, bringing humor like no other. Joe was a great counsel to everyone but especially to his siblings. He was the favorite to all his nieces and nephews. Joe cared for all he met and was at his best when he would tease his family and mother. Joe was a strong presence and beloved by all who met him. He will be greatly missed. Flowers are being arranged through Designs by Rachel in Lubbock.

Survivors include his mother, Esmeralda Salas, siblings, Aurilano & (Isabelle) Salas, Jr., Rudy & (Eva) Salas; Diana & (Domingo Sepeda), Irene Salas & (Tom Foster) and Esmeralda (Travis Logan); fourteen nieces and nephews and ten great-nieces and nephews.
