Joy Keeter Assiter

Joy Keeter Assiter 1932-2016 FLOYDADA-Joy Keeter Assiter, 84, of Floydada, died Friday, April 29, 2016. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Floydada. Burial will follow at Floyd County Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Arrangements are by Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada. Joy was born Jan. 3, 1932, in Erick, OK, to Claude Keeter and Fannie Wolf Keeter. Joy started school in Quitaque, Texas and graduated from Lockney High School as Miss Lockney High. She married the love of her life, Tommy Assiter, on Dec. 25, 1949, in Portales, NM. Joy enjoyed raising her three children and later became the branch manager of Plainview Savings and Loan in downtown Floydada. Joy and Tommy were the third of four generations of Assiters that lived on the same sections of land south of town. Joy and Tommy started the Assiter Punkin Ranch that became her pride and joy. Generations of families have started their fall traditions with an Assiter Punkin making the big red barn on the Ralls Highway their destination. Joy was proud to be a part of the Floyd County Community and showed her support by participating in many organizations. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Red Hat Society, Lockney 49ers, and First United Methodist Church. Joy is survived by her sons, Tim Assiter and wife, Michelle, Tom Spanky Assiter and wife, Amy; her daughter, Darla Carthel and husband, Jack; her grandchildren, Memori Jackson and Kenneth, Bandy Assiter, Kelsey Deerinwater and Steven, Nic Roy, Helena Roy, Ali Kranz and Robert, Brittany Sparks, Julia Sparks, Careese Wood and Josh, Candice Himelrick and Tadd, and Colton Carthel and Madison; 19 great-grandchildren; and her twin brother, Joe Keeter. The family suggests memorials be to First United Methodist Church, 203 W. Kentucky St., Floydada, TX 79235; Spirit of Sharing, 619 E. Houston St., Floydada, TX 79235; or a favorite charity.
