Judy Higginbotham Obituary

Lubbock- Judy Gay Benton Higginbotham was born August 17, 1941 to Lewis H. and Nelda F. Benton of Crosbyton Texas. She passed away on January 11, 2018. Judy worked for many years with her father at Crosby County Abstract Company in Crosbyton Texas. She married Glen Higginbotham in 1967. She is survived by two children; Lewis Bruce Higginbotham and Angela Elania Higginbotham; two grand-daughters, Journey and Legend Vasquez; and a sister, Angela Paterson of Spring Island, SC. Judy graduated from Crosbyton High School in 1959, and attended Texas Tech University, where she graduated with honors in 1991, earning her teaching degree and was also a member of the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. She mentored many young people, and Miss Judy's lifelong motto was "Give Of Yourself" which she continued to do until her final days. She was elected President of the Epsilon Sigma Alpha District IX in 1975, and won First and Second degree of Pallas Athena, for outstanding contributions to the growth and progress and achievement of her sorority. She was a devout Christian, and also an officer in the Salvation Army Church. She helped so many with her teaching in the literacy program throughout her church. She was an accomplished artist and writer, continually sharing her beliefs through her stories and paintings. Judy had a passion for Texas, as well as American History. She was an avid historian, receiving a grant for study in South Dakota, where her work was recommended for publication. In her youth, Judy wandered Blanco Canyon, in search of wild life and history. Judy had great love of animals, and couldn't turn the most in need of help away. Her family and extensive "family of friends" will miss her, but she will always remain with us in spirit. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday January 20, 2018 at the Fellowship Church Of Lubbock on 4th Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Lupus Foundation of America, The Faith Church, and Gingered Blessings Rescue of Levelland.
