Lester Backus NAZARETH-Lester Backus, 54, of Nazareth passed away on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, in Amarillo, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at 11 a.m. in the Holy Family Catholic Church in Nazareth, Texas, with Rev. Ken Keller and Deacon Bob Birkenfeld officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Family Cemetery under the direct care of Colonial Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. on Sunday and vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. in the Holy Family Catholic Church. Lester was born on Nov. 25, 1961, in Dimmitt, Texas, to Hubert and Joan Backus. He graduated from Nazareth High School in 1981. Lester became a dairy farmer and that became his life's passion. Lester enjoyed visiting with friends and family and will always be remembered as a man of honesty and unselfishness. Lester always cared for people and loved his family unconditionally. Lester is survived by his parents, Hubert and Joan Backus of Nazareth; two sons, Brandon Backus and Blake Backus both of Canyon; four brothers, Wayne Backus and wife Susan of Lubbock, Ricky Backus and wife Crystal of Nazareth, Marlon Backus of Dimmitt and Ron Backus and wife Jeanine of Lubbock; nephews, Justin and wife Brittany, Zac, Jeremy, Reid, Kellen and Ethen; nieces, Laci and Lauren.
