Marvin Newman

Marvin Newman LEVELLAND-Marvin was born on Saturday, Jan. 25th 1930 in Sterling City, Texas to George Washington and Sarah Elam Newman. He grew up in Barnhart, Texas and completed high school there. Marvin married the love of his life, Anna Moree, on December 8th, 1947 in Big Lake, Texas. They moved to Levelland in 1955 from Shamrock, Texas. Marvin worked for Amaco Oil Co. as a Plant Foreman for over 30 years in Sundown. He had many hobbies including carpentry and woodworking. He enjoyed building beautiful rocking horses for his kids and grandkids. He was an avid reader and loved Zane Gray books. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and playing his harmonica. He was an Elder at the House of Prayer church and the principal at H.O.P.E school both in Levelland. His passions in life were spending quality time with his family and serving the Lord. Survivors include: his wife of 68 years, Anna Newman of Levelland; daughters: Vikki (Boogie) Armes, of Levelland, and Terri (Don) Caldwell of Lubbock; son, Steve (Billie) Newman of Levelland; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; brother: Ervin (Lolene) Newman from Encinal, Texas; and sister: Martha Elsie Jones of Stanford, Texas. Marvin is preceded in death by: his parents, George Washington and Sarah Elam Newman; five brothers, Elvis, Alvis, Alvin, Elvin, and Melvin Newman; and two sisters, Alcie Peters and Alma Parham. Pallbearers will be: Linc Armes, Jonathan Newman, Lonnie Bridges, Christopher Barker, Nathan Armes, Seth Armes, and Victor Vargas. Graveside gathering will be held on Wednesday, March 9th, 2016 at 3 p.m. in the City of Levelland Cemetery, followed by a Memorial Fellowship at 4 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Levelland. Viewing will be held Tuesday, March 8th, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday, March 9th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Head Duarte Funeral Home Chapel of Levelland.
