Roberta Pennock Obituary

Roberta June Pennock LUBBOCK - Roberta June Pennock - loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend - was united with her precious God on Sunday, March 4, 2012, after a brief illness. Services, under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home, are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Lubbock with the Rev. Michael Passmore officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Roberta, Bert to her friends and Nana to her grandchildren, went through this life with a perpetual smile on her face and a loving thought in her heart for all those around her, including her cherished pets. She was an active member of First Christian Church and a daily source of inspiration to her family. She was born on June 1, 1932, in McKeesport, Pa., the only child of Jack and Cora Everett. She graduated from McKeesport High School in 1950 and married Bentley C. Pollard on Dec. 20, 1952. The couple had six children and moved to Lubbock in 1972. Her husband died on Oct. 6, 1980. Roberta married David Pennock, the second love of her life, on May 29, 1985, in Lubbock. After brief residences in Dallas and Amarillo, they returned to Lubbock in 1998. Survivors include her husband; three sons - Norval Pollard and wife Mary of Lubbock, Bentley Pollard and wife Leslie of Atlanta, and Chalmer Pollard and wife Sara of Sugarland; three daughters - Corine Pederson and husband Billy of Durango, Colo., Rebecca Wigton and husband Kent of Durango, and Jessica Carpenter and husband Mike of Farmington, N.M.; and one step-daughter, Holly May of Houston. She is also survived by 14 grandchildren - Bentley, Justin and Quinn Pollard; Mahlon, Landon and Chandler Wigton; Harrison, Melissa Mae and Everett Pollard; Hayden and Jensen Carpenter; Amber and Jack Pollard; and Parker Ryan May - and one great grandchild - Evan Pollard. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Lubbock Meals on Wheels or the Music Ministry at First Christian Church in Lubbock.

Dear Pollard and Pennock families. All of Ben Pollard's associates at Georgia State University send our love and condolences to each of you. The Pollards are wonderful people, and we know much of that emanated from Ben's Mom. We are grateful for her remarkable legacy, now carried forward by all who knew and loved her. My dearest Bert. You became a part of my life while living in Amarillo. In my eyes, you were like a second mother. After God moved you both back to Lubbock, I still had those strong feelings about you. You and Dave have always meant the world to me and you still will even while you're with our father God. We will miss you so much! I love you with all my heart! Praying for strength and comfort for all your loved ones and my Dave. Delia

Bert was a lady and a happy lady. Did she smile in her sleep like she did all day?. Bert had a connection with our Shelly. She would go out of her way to come and give Shelly a hug. When they first met, Shelly was confused about her first name. Then Bert said " like Bert and Earnie on Sesame Street' Shelly never forgot that lady named
Bert. The Penrock family is loved by the Ribbles.
