Tyra Martin Carter LUBBOCK - Friends and family will gather to celebrate the life of Tyra Martin Carter, 60, of Lubbock, today, Jan. 25, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014 at Southcrest Baptist Church. Our beloved Tyra went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014. Tyra was born on Jan. 25, 1953 in Lubbock to Harley and Theresa (Moseley) Martin in Lubbock. She grew up in Southland and graduated from Slaton High School. She received her PhD from Texas Tech University. Tyra married Neill Carter on May 19, 1973 in Lubbock. She was a Registered Dietitian and enjoyed cooking and sewing and playing with her grandchildren. Tyra was a member of the Lubbock, the Texas, and the American Dietetic Associations. Tyra was an active member of Southcrest Baptist Church where she played the chimes in the church orchestra. She was recognized as distinguished alumni by the Texas Tech University College of Human Sciences in Oct. of 2013. She was preceded in death by her mother, Theresa Martin, and her sister, Kandice Wright. Survivors include her husband, Neill; two sons, Aaron Carter and wife Bri, and Anthony Carter; two grandchildren, Kaedyn and Tatum Carter, all of Lubbock; her father, Harley Martin and wife Margery; a brother, Paul Martin and wife Pam, all of Slaton; and several nieces and nephews.
