William Parks Obituary

William Harold Parks, Sr. JAYTON- William Bill Harold Parks, Sr., 85, passed away Saturday August 25, 2012, at a Lubbock hospital. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at Jayton Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Bill's family will have visitation 6 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home in Rotan. Online condolences may be made at weathersbeerayfh.com. Bill was born May 1, 1927 in Breckenridge, Texas to Dr. Walter Samuel and Mamie (Walker) Parks. He was raised in Breckenridge and graduated from Kemper Military Institute in Boonesville, Missouri. Bill served his country during WWII in the Navy and then attended Texas Christian University and the University of Texas. He married Charlie Nell Puryear at Jayton on September 26, 1948. They ranched together in Western Oklahoma from 1948 until 1962 and then moved to Jayton, where he acquired the ranch he resided on until his death. Bill was Kent County Commissioner for twenty-four years. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, Jayton-Girard ISD School Board, Kent County Appraisal Board and a Director of the Kent County State Bank. Bill was a hunter and an avid reader. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; one sister, Mary Katherine Parks Sloan; and one brother, Walter S. Parks, III. Bill is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Billie Parks of Jayton; a daughter, Jamie Cody of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; four grandchildren, Shannon Smith, Thomas Parks and his wife Wendi, Charlie Parks and his wife Lynzie, and Marcus Parks; three great-grandchildren, Kellen, Kelbi and Remy Parks; one sister-in-law, Jeanie Parks; and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USN during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Jamie, I am so sorry about your daddy. Adjusting to the death of both parents is strange. I felt like an orphan for the longest time after my daddy died. Take care of yourself.
