Wilma Horton

Wilma Nana Horton LUBBOCK - Wilma Nana Horton, 85, went to be with the Lord on Monday, March 3, 2014 at Covenant Medical Center. Services for Mrs. Horton will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at St Luke Baptist Church with Rev. J.H. Ford officiating. Burial will follow at City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Calvillo Funeral Home. There will be an open visitation all day today starting at 12 p.m. at Calvillo Funeral Home. Wilma was born April 3, 1928 in Meridian, Texas to Jesse and Jessie Johnson. She married the late O.C. Horton on Aug. 31, 1949 in Lubbock. She graduated from San Diego High School and later received her Associates Degree through Swiftonia College in Knoxville, TN. She worked as a self-employed daycare worker for most of her life and was a member of the VFW, Post 808, where she enjoyed cooking and helping families whenever she could. Although she never met a stranger, she enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and friends. She is survived by two sons, Rikkii Horton and Michael Horton both of Lubbock; two daughters, Deborah Horton of Richmond and Rochelle Taylor of Lubbock; 14 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Jessie Johnson; her husband, O.C. Horton; two brothers, Charles Johnson and Jesse Boy Blue Johnson Jr.; and three sisters, Valerie Tutor Drake, Leona Billy Johnson, and Rose Stephenson.
