AMY ANTUNES Obituary

AMY ANTUNES Amy Elizabeth Rinehart Antunes, born April 19, 1959, to Albert and Sue Rinehart in Willoughby, Ohio, passed away Saturday, July 26, 2014, at 11:43 p.m., in Las Vegas. She was 55 years old. She fought a heroic battle with breast cancer and left us peacefully while at home with her devoted loving husband, Mark, and her beloved daughter, Holly, at her side. She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Rinehart; and brother-in-law, John Masco. She leaves behind her husband and best friend, of 23 years, Mark Antunes; her only daughter, Holly Antunes of Las Vegas. Her mother and stepfather, Lee and Sue Okerwall; her siblings, Lori Macso and Kevin Rinehart; nephews, Albert Masco, Van Rinehart and AJ Rinehart; niece, Martha Zelinski; and her in-laws, Kenneth and Marianne Antunes, Beth Carlson and Kenny Antunes. She leaves behind countless loving friends that will miss her dearly. Her family would like to thank all of them for their continued support for Amy with and through her fight. Each and every one of you are appreciated. Amy graduated from Mentor High School in Mentor, Ohio, in 1977. She went on to serve proudly for our country in the U.S. Air Force for over 16 years, serving during Desert Storm and stationed abroad in Germany. She retired with honor and went on to work as a civilian At Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, for AAFES as an executive assistant, where she retired in 2014. Amy was a selfless person who genuinely cared more about others before herself. Amy had the most amazing smile and her laughter could change a room. Amy was diagnosed with cancer in October 2006 and despite unbeatable odds she fought her illness with unwavering tenacity. She never surrendered emotionally to cancer. Her boundless concern and consideration for others stayed true until her final days. Amy will live on in the hearts of all of us that she has left behind and through her beautiful daughter, Holly, who perfectly embodies Amy's tremendous spirit. It was her wish that she not be remembered with dark colors, but rather we remember her with vibrant colors that embodied her jovial happy self as she was when she was here. She requested pink and orange to be her colors of mourning. She hoped that everyone would be in happy colors to bid her farewell. Viewing will start at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 1, with funeral services following, both at the Mormon Chapel North of the Temple. The entrance will be on the south side of the building, 827 Temple View Drive, Las Vegas. Please avoid dark colors, festive colors are preferred per Amy's wish.

My dear sweet friend, Amy. I can't believe it's been 9 years since you left us all. You were a friend to all. I will always admire you for your strength and attitude. I've never seen anyone as strong as you. I'm so sorry that I couldn't come to send you off. To this day, whenever I hear someone say, "whatever" I instantly think of you and can hear you saying it as you walked down the offices hallways and store! You were a wonderful co-worker and a pleasure to know you!
