BARBARA MULHOLLAND Obituary

BARBARA MULHOLLAND Barbara Linden Mulholland passed away at home June 17, 2016. She was born Feb. 12, 1942, to Rene Linden and Mildred Caccavo. Barbara was proud to share her birthdate with President Lincoln, which inspired her nickname, "the Baberaham." In 1948, Mildred passed away and Rene married Rosanne Rudesill. They raised Barbara and her four siblings in the Detroit suburb of Grosse Pointe, Mich. Barbara attended high school and college in Michigan and, in 1965, moved to New York City to pursue a career in advertising. She quickly learned to be a New Yorker, by taking a cab to the hospital for Megan's birth because her husband, Tim was at work. With her infectious laugh, engaging smile and warm personality, it should surprise no one that she made friends everywhere she went. After all, she never met a stranger. The family moved to Wilton, Conn. in 1970. There, Barbara gave birth to Heather and Patrick and enjoyed her favorite home "with a small red barn in back." In 1977, they moved to Las Vegas. Following a divorce, Barbara worked at Saks Fifth Avenue, in the casino business at the Tropicana Hotel and for the Las Vegas Pro-Am Golf Tournament (as it was called then). With equally rooted persistence and value of education, she put her three children through Bishop Gorman High School. In 1983, Citibank opened a credit card processing operation in Las Vegas and Barbara was the fifth employee hired in an operation that would eventually employ thousands. At that time, the bank was the second largest private sector employer in Nevada. Barbara became the senior vice president for Community Affairs, or as she liked to put it "I give away the bank's money." However, she did so much more than her simplified description. Under Barbara's leadership Citibank's philanthropy supported many diverse organizations including Communities in Schools, Nevada Ballet, Three Square, After-School All Stars and many others. The organizations did not just get financial assistance, they got Barbara. With her tireless dedication, came training and expertise focused on transparency, efficiency and accountability. By educating non-profit organizations, she revolutionized philanthropy in Las Vegas. She retired in 2014, but her impact on the community and charitable giving continues today. Following her retirement, she briefly indulged her passion for drawing by taking classes at UNLV. However, it didn't take long for her life's work of helping others, to take center stage again. Barbara became a volunteer at WestCare Foundation's Women and Children's Campus, where programs and services across the continuum of health and human services are offered to improve the lives of vulnerable women and children. With Barbara's help, they recently celebrated the largest grant the facility has ever received, and as a result more women and children's lives will be touched, changed and saved. Barbara would say, "The women and children need help more than I need flowers." Barbara, the beloved sister, mother, grandmother and partner is survived by her sister, Joan Linden Gibson; brothers, Robert Linden, David Linden and Richard Linden; daughters, Megan Wilkes, Heather Mulholland Kenney; son, Patrick Mulholland; son-in-law, Paul Wilkes; granddaughter, Katie Wilkes; grandson, Ryan Wilkes (granddaughters, Charlotte Wilkes, Piper Kenney and Brooke Kenney; and significant other, of 25 years, Stanley Hunterton. Celebration of Barbara's life will be at 10 a.m. Friday, June 24, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be sent to WestCare's Women and Children's Campus, 5659 Duncan Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89130, (702) 385-2020).

The tide recedes but leaves behind
bright seashells on the sand.
The sun goes down, but gentle
warmth still lingers on the land.
The music stops, and yet it echoes
on in sweet refrains..
For every joy that passes,
something beautiful remains.

Barbara was a beautiful person with a beautiful soul to match. Always with a smile and enough enthusiasm for 20 people. Those we hold closest to our hearts never truly leave us. They live on in the kindness they have shared and the love they brought into our lives. My condolences to the family may your memories give you peace and comfort.

I had the honor of meeting this amazing woman over 20 years ago. She was such a beautiful spirit and lit up a room with her smile and grace. She was truly beautiful inside and out. I loved running into her over the years and getting those amazing hugs and squeals of joy. Her beauty and heart lives on in her daughters. She will be missed by so many that loved her. I pray for peace and comfort for Megan, Heather & Patrick, grandkids, and the rest of her beloved family. My heart is broken for you all. She was a true class act!

I had the pleasure of working with Barbara at Citibank. Her wit and smile drew me to her. She was ferociously honest but always helpful. What I will remember most was her love of people and all things Nevada. Truly a loss....

Barbara's smile was her calling card, that smile simply lit up a room whenever and wherever she was. What a shock - so glad she had a while to enjoy retirement, but certainly not enough. She will be missed. To her family - may her memory forever be a blessing.
