CHARLES LEE Obituary

CHARLES "CHUCK" LEE Charles "Chuck" Lee, age 82, passed away August 22, 2018. Born in Chicago, Ill., he served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1957 as a paratrooper with the rank of Sergeant. A Las Vegas law enforcement legend, he had the privilege of guarding Martin Luther King, Jr. during the civil rights movement in Chicago. He joined the Clark County Sheriff's Department and brought his family out West in 1967. Among his positions were homicide detective and polygraph examiner for the Metropolitan Police Department. He retired as Assistant Chief Investigator for the Clark County District Attorney's office. Two of his prominent cases were the MGM fire in 1980, in which 87 people died, and the Hilton fire in 1981, in which eight people perished. He ran for sheriff in 1997. An astute businessman, Chuck entered the private sector, co-founding the Courtesy Automotive Car Dealership Group in 1990 and also served as President of the New Car Dealers' Association. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor and generosity. We are greatly saddened to lose him, but celebrate Chuck's extraordinary life. He is survived by his two children. Services were private and he was laid to rest at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.

I am saddened to hear about the passing of Mr. Lee.

At the office, Chuck would often stop by on his way out to say Hi! He would sit for a moment, and enjoy a conversation or two and always enjoyed my candy dish for a few chocolate bars. :-) My daughter, at that time, was finishing up her Criminal Justice degree at UNLV, and Chuck would always send pointers and things of interest for me to relay to her.

He was a delightful person who seemed generally happy about everything. He also enjoyed talking about his Military and Law Enforcement career, and we would exchange stories about his service in the Army and my father who was also serving at that time in the Air Force in Korea.

My condolences to the family.

I only met Chuck once and he was very kind and powerful with his warm smile. What I remember him most for is his beautiful daughter, my dear friend. I have not seen her in over 20-years, but she is a sweetheart. She is also deeply private. My hope is that she will remember me as fondly as I remember her and be in touch! I am sorry for your lost L.

I remember Chuck during the time I worked in the Clark County District Attorney's Office.. Chuck was very easy going and always fair to me as well as the rest of the Investigators. I never heard a negative word about Chuck. He always had a story to tell and was never short of those. I will always remember Chuck as straightforward and Patriotic having served in the Army. I send my sympathies to Chuck's family. May he Rest in Eternal Peace.
