Corey Wilcox Obituary

COREY WILCOX Corey Christian Wilcox, 23, passed away Friday, March 4, 2011, amongst family and many friends as close as family. Born Aug. 14, 1987, in Las Vegas, he was always full of life. From when he was little, he was always very mechanical. It was fitting that he would become a master mechanic and fabricator. He started working at Super Duty Shop at the age of 16 learning to weld, fabricate, and install suspensions. After graduating high school at 17, Corey moved to Phoenix, to attend Universal Technical Institute. He specialized in an intensive Ford program receiving an Associate of Occupational Studies Degree. He graduated with a 4.0 GPA having never missed a day. After graduation he returned to Las Vegas and went back to work at Super Duty Shop for 18 months. About a year ago, he began working at Warrior Blowers welding and fabricating. In addition, he did a lot of freelance work for family, friends, and people that had heard of his unmatched skill and expertise. Every person he knew can speak to his incredible intelligence. On top of formal education, he was constantly educating himself to become better at his craft. Corey loved working on race trucks and going out to the sand dunes with friends and family. He was a loyal, friendly, and gentle hearted soul. Son, brother, and friend to all. To know Corey was to love him. He lived life to the fullest from beginning to end. He was preceded in death by grandfathers, Andrew Wilcox and Ralph Rainey; and grandmother, Julia Wilcox-Rainey. He is survived by parents, Mark and Sherrie Wilcox; sister, Brittney Wilcox; grandparents, Norton and Erma Egge; and many, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, March 12, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 5160 W. Lone Mountain Rd. Anyone that knew Corey is welcome.

Mark, Sherrie and Brittany,
Even though I personally have not met Corey, listening to his and your family life experiences brings a vivid picture to my mind of a silly and gifted young man. Having a child the exact same age and knowing so many others that same age only makes me ache for your loss of your baby. Though I see him living in you, I'm sorry I had never met him. I am so happy for you that God has sent you on a new journey, which seems to be in a far away land. He knows what he is doing, but I will miss you so much.

As time goes by we keep alive in our hearts what we long for most, always remembering never to forget the blessing that is a gift given for all to short held within our arms; we're still here wishing we didn't have to let you go, your smile, your hope, your laugh, our memories will never fade. As we feel heavy, you are our light, today and tomorrow at our side, we love you... and those you leave behind.

Mark, Sherrie and Brittany,
It's so hard to be the ones left behind to deal with the grief of a lost loved one. The strenght comes from those family and friends around you and their support. The loss of a child is never easy or fair but I hope it gets easier to deal with. Much love and many prayers to you.

Hey Corey,
I know I'm supposed to be writing in this book to leave comforting words to your family and other friends, but I'd rather talk to you. I feel like I didn’t get to do that enough. I'm really sorry we didn't get to hang out like we were supposed to. Every time you came over to our house to hang out with Warner, I was always working!! It's crazy how I didn't know you very well, but still feel like I lost one of my best friends. Although our phone friendship was fun, I rather would have been able to give you a hug to thank you for being such a good friend to us. I don't know if you noticed, but it made Warner so happy to have you back in his life. He never got to ask you, but we had talked about having you as one of the groomsmen in our wedding. For that, I will always be sad. It's not going to be the same without you there. I really regret not being able to see you on Wednesday when you came over--all week both Warner and I have felt like you are still in our house somehow. I was talking to you today and laughing because I had to carry a heavy box upstairs and I remember you saying, "Why is it that every time I come over I always have to do manual labor?!?"
I could talk about everything that has been going through my head this week and what Warner and I have talked about, but I've probably rambled on long enough. I have run over what I wanted to say in my head a thousand times this week, but can't ever come up with the right words.
Thank you for accepting me into your life without question and for being the great person you were. Thank you for the laughter and for being there for Warner. Sometimes I don't think I have the right to be so sad, since we weren't very close, but I really miss you. Life isn't fair and I only hope that this will make people realize that it can be gone in an instant and just assuming that people know how much you care about them doesn't mean that they actually do....I hope one day I can find another friend who cared as much about others as you did.

Mark and Sherrie: We are so saddened by your loss. Watching Corey grow up in the neighborhood was such a wonderful thing. Seeing him in the garage with Mark and so happy and interested in what he was learning. He was helpful to us too and just a very special young man.

Corey, I have such wonderful memories watching you and Brit play together with Bre and Colby, working on your bikes in the garage with Wayne and Wayne, Colby and I riding dirt bikes with you and Mark. Mark and Sherrie, words cannot even begin to express our sorrow, may your memories give you strength.

Mark and Sherrie,

There are no words that anyone can say to heal your pain.

Corey was a special kid and we loved him like a son. We watched him and Bryan grow up together, we too have a loss in our hearts. Please no that Corey was a bright spot in everyones eyes and we loved when he would come over. Bryan looked up to him and respected him and thought of him as a brother.

We will never forget him and thank you for bringing such a gifted and special child into our lives.

Mark and Sherrie,

There are no words anyone can say that will help you with your loss. But Corey was a very special young man and we watched him grow up with Bryan. We loved Corey like a son and he was part of the family. We too have much heartache over this tragedy and feel a deep loss. Our prayers are with you. Bryan thought of Corey as a brother and you as his second family. We were all blessed to be a part of his life and will always remember him.

The last week has been filled with mixed emotions, At first I was angry and frustrated that I hadn’t spent more time with Corey and his family in the last few years. Eventually, I came to realize that sometimes part of growing up involves drifting apart from people. I now know that what’s important are all the memories I have growing up with Corey, Brit, and my brother. The four of us were inseparable. Brit and I would be making up dance routines in the pool while Colby and Corey were splashing us or we’d all be at grandma and grandpas playing hide and go seek, hide the thimble or playing on the ropes in the trees. We had the most amazing times together and that's the only thing that matters. I will miss his smile, his sarcasm and above all I will miss HIM. I am so very sorry Sherrie, Mark and Brit for your loss! I love you all and will always be here for you!

To my beloved cousin,
For many years we were two peas in a pod. As we grew older, we parted our seperate ways, as old friends sometimes do. Our family is what kept us together, but not as close as I would have liked. You came to see my son when he was born, and I couldn't be more thankful to have you as part of my family. I am going to miss you bud. Thank for always having my back, literally. To Mark, Sherrie, and Brittney, my family and I love you very much.

Always in out thoughts, while Corey may no longer be with us, all of the memories we have of the good times will never fade. He was a great friend to all who knew him and the impact he had on all of us will no doubt grow with his passing. Though we mourn the loss of a friend, son, brother, grandson, and loved one lets not forget to take the time to celebrate each and every opportunity we had to be in the presence of a great man taken from us too soon. My thoughts and prayers with you all in this difficult time, rejoice for all of the good memories that we have, for Corey living life to the fullest each and every day and knowing that he never had a moment to waste, from that we can all learn to be better and take away a piece of his good will and fearless attitude with us to keep in our hearts.
