DAKOTA KOUBA Obituary

DAKOTA KOUBA Dakota John Kouba came into this world May 4, 1999. Unfortunately he only spent 19 amazing years with us, until his internal pain became too great for him to bear. On December 25, 2018, our beloved son left this world for a life free of pain and suffering and to be with his sister, Cheyenne, who was taken all too soon in 2008, in a tragic accident. Dakota will forever be remembered by his mother, Kimberly and his father, Rory. He will also live on in the memory of many family members including grandmothers, Mary Houston and Marlene Kouba; and grandfather, John Wasserburger. Countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends will also keep his memory alive. In his lifetime, Dakota attended Seton academy, Green Valley Christian St. Viator, and was a graduate of Bishop Gorman High School class of 2017. He was an avid gamer and loved his loyal companion, Sparta. He was truly his happiest outside, whether it was hiking in the Redwoods with his uncle Tim, playing at the ranch with Michael and Willy, road tripping with is mom, or fishing in Alaska with his dad and Gramps, but the times he held most dear were the times he spend with his litter sister, Cheyenne. Services will be at 11 a.m. Sat., Jan. 5, at Palm Mortuary, in the King David Chapel, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Las Vegs, NV 89123. A reception will follow the ceremony. Everyone who knew him is welcome to come and celebrate his life. We are encouraging people to donate to the National Suicide Awareness campaign.

I'm just heartbroken over the loss of Dakota. I had the pleasure of being his teacher for 3rd and 5th grade. He was by far, the most gentle, kind, honest, soft spoken boy I have ever known. His sweet family has endured so much and I will always love, pray for, and think of them fondly. Forever in our hearts Kouba family.

I will always remember Dakota's entry into the world. I walked into the delivery room and there he was, several weeks early eyes wide open, bright red hair, tiny and strong. A perfect child. A much-anticipated baby boy. A grandson for John and me to love, and oh how we loved him.
Over the years, day after day, here came Dakota galloping across the driveway from his house to ours, shouting "Gramps....Nonna Linda!" Soon he was followed by his barefoot little sister Cheyenne, who quickly took the place in front. She was clearly the boss and he sweetly allowed it.
These beautiful kids had their grandpa in the palm of their hands as he put together toys, built tree houses, and cooked the best burgers for the most glorious birthday parties. Gramps doted on his two beautiful grandchildren. Dakota was bright, inquisitive and shy all at once. I took great pride in teaching him and Cheyenne to swim, with Dakota worriedly looking on, as Cheyenne leaped fearlessly into the deep end, and Dakota, always her hero, unofficially consigned to lifeguard duty for hours, saved her again and again. I would come home from work with gramps on grandpa duty to be greeted by Cheyenne, hands on hip, exclamations of "I didn't do it!" while Dakota sweetly took the blame for small infractions. Two precious children gone too soon, Dakota left us to be with his sister in heaven, but never to be forgotten. I am grateful to have been Nonna Linda to this sweet boy and his precious sister. I am even more grateful to have witnessed the love they received from their parents and from the love of my life, their amazing grandpa. A love like no other, cut all too short.
