DAVID SCHROM Obituary

DAVID SCHROM David Lee Schrom, 41, of Henderson, passed away peacefully July 13, 2014, at home. As a native of War, W.Va., he was a graduate of Big Creek High School and always dreamed of becoming an FBI Special Agent. He graduated from Ohio University, and West Virginia University School of Law. After graduation from law school, he served in the U.S. Army JAG Corps in Fort Hood, Texas for four years, and even served time in Bosnia. In 2002, his dream of becoming an FBI Special Agent came true. He worked in the Las Vegas Division of the FBI from 2002 until the time of his death. During his FBI career, he investigated cyber crimes and white collar crimes and also served as the media representative, InfraGard coordinator, and a member of the SWAT team. He is survived by his husband, Michael Pedro Cervantes-Schrom; parents, Fred and Gerrie Schrom of War; brothers, Steven Schrom of Austin, Texas and Matthew Schrom of Salt Lake City; and six beautiful nieces and nephews. Local visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, with memorial services following, both at Central Christian Church, 1001 New Beginnings Drive, Henderson. Funeral services will be at noon Friday, July 25, at War Methodist Church in War.

Very belated condolences to Matthew, Pedro and the Schrom Family. Had the privilege of calling David and Matthew great friends at WVU. Last night I was reminiscing and as I do periodically, I searched the "Net" for old friends I haven't seen in a while but whose memories I cherish. Last evening I thought to myself "I wonder what the Schrom brothers are up to." I saw David's FBI photo and was overjoyed. Then I clicked to the article and was devastated. I had the privilege and honor at WVU of being in David and Matthew's company on many happy occasions. Last time I saw them was while I briefly lived in CA after graduation. Matthew invited me down to the DLI where he was stationed several times. I was always too busy with work it seemed. On one occasion he said "David's here for the weekend!" I broke all previous plans and went down. It was a great weekend. There is a cliche when people pass; many people say of the passee, "He was the nicest person you could ever meet." 99.9% of the time it is B.S. With David it was 100% true. He had a heart of gold. Though several years on from his passing, I wanted to pay my respects.

Dave. I do not know where to start because I just found this and am totally shocked. I knew you since 2000, when we were at Ft. Hood together. You became my very best friend I ever had, and you were always wonderful to me. I always think about how after 9.11.2001 and the MPs were working long hours at gates, and you would always bring me cheese-its, and visit me in the arms room and keep me company. And I will never forget how hard you laughed watching a funny part on The Rock. After you left for the FBI I had to stay in the military for another year, but the day I got out I drove to Vegas and lived with you for a year and a half. Although we changed and things didn't go quite right I will always remember how caring and helpful to me when I went through my accident and you always did whatever was in your means to help myself or anybody. You were a great person. Although we didn't talk often a few times a year we would have a chat on the phone, and whenever you came to Texas you ALWAYS made time to come down to south Austin and visit, and take me to Jasons Deli to which I have an addiction because of you :) Quite bluntly, I am totally shocked at this news and I am so so sorry we didn't remain closer, and I did love you very much and do to this day, and I will always think about you and the conversations we had. The last time we talked you told me your cancer had come back but told me not to worry because you were going to have some treatments done, and you told me about your new car and I told you Suze Orman would so deny you!! I remember the time we went to six flags and you turned to me and said..."you are never going to guess who is standing behind you...Drew Barrymore!!", and I said I wanted to say hi and you said leave her alone, so I did, we rode the ride at the same time as her and after she got off the ride you shouted..."WE LOVE YOU DREW!! and I was so embarrassed, but every body on the ride laughed! I am cursed that I never got to talk to you again, but I am happy you found love and got married and were not alone. To your husband Michael- I cannot express in words how sorry I am for you, and I wish you and your families only the best and offer my sadness. I just want to tell you Dave that you are always in my heart and I very much miss the friendship we had. I miss you very much.

I just heard of David's passing. I'm so saddened by this news. David and I were friends at Ohio University. When I graduated (a year ahead of him) he gave me an OU scarf because we had a conversation once about how I wanted to try to get a job in Colorado and he thought I would need it. I was touched that he would get me a gift, but more so that he remembered that conversation. That, to me, was David. Supportive and encouraging to those around him. I am sorry we had lost touch. I am happy to see that he had accomplished his dream in life of becoming an FBI agent and that he had found love. He was deserving of all good things. I know its been a few months now, but my thoughts and prayers remain with his family and loved ones. I am so thankful for the brief time this wonderful man was a part of my life and his impact has stayed with me forever! God bless.

I want to add that if it hadnt of been for Davids tutoring, I would have never made it out of War Jr or Big Creek. He was not only very intelligent but funny as well. Always smiling and laughing. It was a pleasure to have spent my teen years growing up with an awesome guy like him in my class. And he comes from such an awesome family. To the Schrom family: please accept my prayers, kisses and hugs from Boston, MA. Im glad that my sister Yvette Henry and I got to come down for the school closing and reunion and see you.
