Edward Turek Obituary

Edward Huntington Turek (LT COL USAF RET) 87 passed away Monday 9/4/2017. He was born 9/30/1929 in Hatch, UT to Edward and Julia Marie Turek. He was the oldest of five children, three brothers Vince (Eileen), Wynn (Shauna), Brent (Lyn) Turek and sister Kay (Tom) Winn.

He married Lola Leavitt of Logandale, NV 5/31/1952. Lola passed away 2/18/2012. Together they had four children, sons Gary (JoAnne), Mikell (Kelly), and Chris (Laura), and daughter Sherri (Jason) Martin. He was the proud grandfather of twelve grandchildren. Erin (Jared) Richards, Ryan (Natassja), Patrick (Gillian), Kevin (Anna), Robert, Kira, Matthew (Vanessa), Jessica (Peter) Burnett, Chaura (Jason) Butterfield, Rachel (Travis) Spencer, Stewart and Justin Martin. He also leaves thirteen Great-Grandchildren. He is also survived by his aunt Ada Nordell and dozens of cousins, nephews and nieces.

Ed grew up spending his summers in Grand Canyon where his father worked and in the winter at Bryce Canyon. When he was six, his parents settled in Hatch, Utah where Ed attended school then graduated from high school at Panguitch in 1947. He attended college at the BAC in Cedar City where he met and married Lola Leavitt. He was commissioned a 2nd LT in the USAF at Utah State University in 1953. Ed and Lola spent the next 60 years having more fun than the law should allow. He served in the Air Force until his retirement in 1979. He said “If I told you about all the things I have done in the AF, you would be sure that I was telling lies.”

After retirement the family moved to Las Vegas where Ed taught school. The family was active in the LDS church and Ed filled many leadership positions. But the what they were most proud of was their children and grandchildren. Ed and Lola said, “We won’t know what kind of parents we were until we see how our grandchildren turn out. We must have been wonderful parents!”

Services will be held on 9/16/2017, 12:00 PM at LDS chapel, 1726 Palora Ave, LV, NV 89169. Internment will be in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City.
