EMIDDIO DIMARTINO Obituary

EMIDDIO DOMINICK DIMARTINO The DiMartino Family announces the passing of Emiddio Dominick DiMartino at the age of 93 at his home on March 30, 2020. Dee served in the Marines during WWII in the pacific theater which he was profoundly proud of. In 1973 Dee & his wife, Shirley, moved from South Orange, New Jersey to Las Vegas, Nevada with their children Ricky, Terese, David, Mark, Gigi & Aimee. Together they opened up DiMartino's Italian Deli. It soon became DiMartino's Italian Restaurant serving as one of Las Vegas premier restaurants for over 30 years. It was here that Dee & Shirley were their happiest sharing their life and treating their patrons as if they were family. He was a happy man who was always ready with a smile and a joke for all who passed through DiMartino's doors. He was a deeply religious man who attended church at St. Anne's, St. Viator's & St. Thomas More until the last month of his life. Dee was a family man and is survived by his wife Shirley, 6 children, 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who was loved by many. He is missed dearly. Mass service will be held at St. Thomas More July 27th at 10am.

I just found out about Dee´s passing. So very sad to hear after all these years. I don´t know if you remember me but my mom KiKi lived next door to you in millington nj a long time ago. I was thinking of you Shirley and the wonderful family and dog you had . It was a pleasure knowing you back then. I hope you and your family are doing well. God bless

I MISS YOU DAD. I MISS YOU VERY MUCH.

IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MISSING ANYTHING YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN OR WHAT I'M FEELING. HOW DESPERATELY I WISH I COULD ASK HIM ONE MORE QUESTION, OR ASK HIM ONE MORE TIME WHAT HE THINKS ABOUT WHAT I'M THINKING. I'D GIVE ANYTHING TO BE ABLE TO DO THAT JUST ONE MORE TIME. TO TELL HIM I'LL DO MY BEST FOR THE REST MY LIFE TO KEEP THE VALUES HE TAUGHT , TO BE KIND AND COMPASSIONATE, TO LOVE MY FAMILY AS HE LOVED US.

THERE IS A POEM I'D LIKE TO SHARE BY MAYA ANGELOU. IT'S CALLED "WHEN GREAT TREES FALL"

WHEN GREAT TREES FALL,
ROCKS ON DISTANT HILLS SHUDDER,
LIONS HUNKER DOWN
IN TALL GRASSES,
AND EVEN ELEPHANTS
LUMBER AFTE SAFETY.

WHEN GREAT TREES FALL
IN FORRESTS,
SMALL THINGS RECOIL INTO SILENCE,
THEIR SENSES
ERODED BEYOND FEAR.

WHEN GREAT SOULS DIE,
THE AIR AROUND US BECOMES
LIGHT, RARE, STERILE.
WE BREATHE, BRIEFLY.
OUR EYES, BRIEFLY,
SEE WITH
A HURTFUL CLARITY.
OUR MEMORY, SUDDENLY SHARPENED,
EXAMINES,
GNAWS ON KIND WORDS
UNSAID,
PROMISED WALKS
NEVER TAKEN.

GREAT SOULS DIE AND
OUR REALITY, BOUND TO
THEM, TAKES LEAVE OF US.
OUR SOULS,
DEPENDENT UPON THEIR
NURTURE,
NOW SHRINK, WIZENED.
OUR MINDS, FORMED
AND INFORMED BY THEIR
RADIANCE, FALL AWAY.

WE ARE NOT SO MUCH MADDENED
AS REDUCED TO THE UNUTTERABLE INGNORANCE
OF DARK, COLD
CAVES.

AND WHEN GREAT SOULS DIE,
AFER A PERIOD PEACE BLOOMS,
SLOWLY AND ALWAYS
IRREGULARLY. SPACES FILL
WITH A KIND OF
SOOTHING ELECTRIC VIBRATION.
OUR SENSES, RESTORED, NEVER
TO BE THE SAME, WHISPER TO US.
THEY EXISTED. THEY EXISTED.
WE CAN BE. BE AND BE
BETTER. FOR THEY EXISTED.

The world has lost a wonderful man. Condolences to the family. Len Hornsby and I ate at the restaurant forever. Dee and Ricky treated us as part of the family.

It is with great sadness to learn of the passing of "Dee" DiMartino. He had without a doubt the best family friendly Italian restaurant in Las Vegas. In the late 70s I took my family, my wife and two boys every Monday night to have our traditional Italian dinner and watch Monday night football. It was my only night off and Dee not only had our special booth waiting but with his charm and demeanor we felt that he was part of our family. It is no wonder that his son Mark carried on the DiMartino family tradition of fine restaurants.
Dee may you Rest In Peace and eternal love with our Heavenly Father. You truly were a special person.

As one of Dee's first customers at the Deli, it is with sadness that I read of his passing. God rest your soul, Dee.

To the DiMartino Family:
Deepest sympathy on the loss of your precious Dee. He always had a joke for us when we came in for dinner, and was a very warm host. May your memories of him, and that of a life well-lived sustain you forever.

My condolences on his passing. My family loved DiMartino´s and some of my fondest childhood memories are of our Tuesday night dinners there with my entire family. Mr. D always treated us like family. I still miss that salad dressing. The best!
