EMILY HADLAND Emily "Bobbie" Seaman Hadland, 90, of Henderson, passed away Monday, Feb. 4, 2008. She was born Oct. 21, 1917, and grew up in Beacon, N.Y., with her five sisters in an estate near the Hudson River. She attended Middlebury College in Vermont, graduating with a degree in sociology. Bobbie moved to New York City, where she met her husband, Larry "Bud" Hadland. After World War II, they moved to Las Vegas in 1945. Bobbie helped Bud with the bookkeeping at his businesses, first as a partner in the Garden Center Nursery, and later at his own nursery, Hadland Nursery. She and Bud raised six children, and Bobbie was active in the parent/teacher associations at their schools. She volunteered at many other local charities, including Opportunity Village. Later in life, Bobbie attended UNLV, earning a masters of social work degree. She worked as activities director at the Downtown Las Vegas Senior Center, and then as the center director at the Deerfelt Senior Center. Bobbie loved to help people and after she retired in her 70s, she continued to help many people. She had a special place in her heart for East Coast Native Americans. Her greatest joy was her family, and she enjoyed planning many family get-togethers, gathering her six children, their spouses, her 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren to her home. She was a generous, smart, patient, kind and loving mother, sister, friend, grandmother and great-grandmother, who will be deeply missed. Everyone who knew her, loved her. Bobbie was preceded in death by her husband, Larry "Bud" Hadland; daughter, Judy Wagner; and sisters, Sally Mullan, Peggy Jones, Nancy Seaman and Betty Barry. She is survived by her sons, Richard Hadland and his wife, Sandy Hadland, Kenneth Hadland and his wife, Elizabeth Hadland, and son George Hadland and his wife, Norma Hadland; daughters, Janet Niemi and her husband, John Niemi, and Marie Skiles and her husband, Jim Skiles; son-in-law, Thurland "Skip" Wagner; sister, Patricia Daniels; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Donations may be made to Opportunity Village in Las Vegas or to the Red Cloud Indian School, 100 Mission Drive, Pine Ridge, SD 57770.
