FREDERICK MEIWALD Obituary

COL. FREDERICK MEIWALD U.S. Air Force, Retired Colonel Frederick Meiwald, 70, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, after a prolonged illness. Raised in Havre, Mont., his formal education included a BS degree in mathematics (Rocky Mountain College) and a MS degree in information science (Georgia Tech). Commissioned in 1963, his 28-year career with the U.S. Air Force included assignments with the Air Force Communications Command, the Strategic Air Command, and the Space Command. His awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters and the Joint Service Commendation Medal. A Las Vegas resident for 21 years, Fred had two passions, one of which was woodworking. An avid square dancer, Fred will be missed by a legion of friends belonging to the Las Vegas valley square dancing community. Fred is survived by his mother, Winifred; wife, Bonita; his daughter, Susan; son-in-law, Michael; and two brothers, Frank and Donald. Services are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the General Scholarship Fund, Rocky Mountain College, attention Advancement Office, 1511 Poly Drive, Billings, MT 59102.

Time flies but Fred will not be forgotten

Bonnie and Family:
I stopped to see Winifred yesterday in Kalispell and she told me of Fred's passing. My prays go out to you. I have alway concerned Fred's dad, Roy, as my second father. I have known Fred for at least 50 years. Summers were great, with Fred and Bonnie visitng in Montana with his mom in tow, seeing all their old friends. He will be missed. God bless.

Susy and I were saddened to learn of Fred's passing. I will always remember him as a young man in Great Falls. I was looking forward to seeing him at the reunion. He will be missed. Our condolences to Bonnie and all his loved ones.
