GARY WALTERS Gary Walters, born June 9, 1939, passed away May 1, 2008, at 6 a.m., at Dixie Hospital in St. George, Utah. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged, and later became a private pilot and flight instructor. Gary was a professional musician and a member of the American Federation of Musicians from 1959 to 1993, playing mostly the bass and bass guitar. He played with many of the top billings in the 60's through the 80's, and toured with Andy Williams, Buddy Rich, Arlo Guthry, Peggy Lee, David Cassidy and many other top performers of their time. He had a love for classic cars and was the founder and president of the Zion Chapter of the National Studebaker Club, and developed many of the websites for other chapters. His stable included, as of late, a classic 1951 Jaguar, a collectible 1990 4-door Avanti, and a 1962 Granturismo Studebaker. Gary was a Senior Pro Bowler and organized and played in many tournaments all over the world. He also organized and ran the SSBT, starting from 1992 to about 2000. He bowled a perfect 300 shortly before falling ill. Gary was a man of many interests and talents. He was intellectual, had remarkable timing and wit, and was loved and respected by many. Gary is survived by his loving daughter, Julie Nigh; son, Eric Henderson; stepson, Bill Mills; stepdaughter, Shannon Dumais; mother, Leona Lichtenberger; sister, Barbara Prince; brother, Steven Lichtenberger; his grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and many wonderful friends.
