GEORGE COOKE Obituary

GEORGE COOKE George William Cooke, 82, of Henderson passed away Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at his home. He was born May 29, 1933, in Superior, Wis., one of five children, to George F. and Esther M. Cooke. George served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He then joined the Riverside Police Department in California, later joining the California Highway Patrol, retiring as sargeant. George moved to Henderson, and after working 20 years as a security supervisor, enjoyed a second retirement from the Flamingo Hilton. George had two sons, Michael and Terry, with then wife, Marion B. Carlson. In 1982, he married Shelley Bravo, and would later legally adopt her son, Alex. George was blessed with nine grandchildren, Lori, Stephen, Justin, Matthew, April, Tayler, Torye, Sophie and Alexis and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom he was immensely proud of. Services with military honors will be at 12:40 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City. A reception will follow at the American Legion, Post #40, 425 E. Van Wagenen St., Henderson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in George's name to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Shelly My name is Frank Vandenburgh and met you once with George. I worked with him at the Flamingo.He and I were good friends along with Arnie Adams which I spoke to last night. I tried to call last night and saw number was disconnected. I spoke to George about 6 months ago and he said you were getting together and he was ill.I just found out he passed and am very sorry.He was a great guy and took good care of me at work. Pleas let me know if you receive this at [email protected] Once again I am sorry for his passing.
