1942 - 2018

GEORGE PANOS George Chester Panos, age 76, passed away peacefully March 31, 2018, in the presence of his family, following a courageous battle with cancer. George was born February 22, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, and married Carmen April 20, 1963. George was a veteran of the Vietnam War and former U.S. Army Military Police, instilling love of country in his children, two of whom joined the Army as well, and his grandchildren, one of whom is a post-9/11 Army veteran. His service to our great nation resulted in several medals, awards and honors, including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Medal, which was awarded to him in recognition for his valor and heroic conduct while in combat with the enemy. He retired as a Sergeant First Class in December 1980. George especially enjoyed camping, hiking, watching old Westerns and anything related to history. As an Ohio native, he loved Cleveland sports and spending time on Lake Eerie in his boat. George had a pioneering spirit and realized his dream of owning a piece of the American West when he purchased property in Dyer, Nevada. There, he was able to spend his days taking in the desert mountain view, watching coyotes, or sitting by the creek that meandered through his very own slice of Heaven. He will be remembered for his amazing sense of humor, fierce loyalty and unwavering sense of duty to protect others, whether in his job or personal life. George was preceded in death by his mother, Stella Sitkowski; and father, Nicholas Panos. He is survived by his wife, Carmen (nee Lebron); daughters, Scharmen (Michael) Konieczka, and Sharon and Charmane Panos; son, John Panos; grandsons, Timothy (Jessica) Morgan, Craig Gorczyca, Anthony Konieczka, Chez and Cameron Panos, Nick and Noah Panos and Zachary Konieczka; and granddaughters, Stephany (Andrew) Jones, Cherina (Matthew) Elfberg, Michaely and Delaney Konieczka, and Carmen, Nicole and Samantha Panos; and great-grandchildren, Sharleen and Sawyer Elfberg, and Dia Morgan. George will be greatly missed, but we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace in the arms of the Lord. Friends may call from noon-4 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89129. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 6, at the Fish Lake Valley Community Center, Highway 264, Tonopah, NV 89049.
