Heini Schoknecht Obituary

HEINI SCHOKNECHT Heini "Hank" Schoknecht, 78, of La Paz, BCS, Mexico, passed away Dec. 9, 2009. He was born March 8, 1931, in Dargun, Germany. Leaving his native Germany after attending hotel school, Hank immigrated to Canada, where he worked on the Alaska ferry boat system in the mid- 1950s. He moved on to Los Angeles, where he worked at Dean Martin's 77 Sunset Strip Restaurant and then settled in Las Vegas. Starting as a busboy at the Riviera Hotel, Hank worked his way up the ladder to his last position as a captain in the Versailles Show Room. Hank left Las Vegas in 1990 and in partnership with entertainer, Engelbert Humperdinck, purchased and managed La Posada de Engelbert Hotel in La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. In the summer of 2009, Hank visited his birth city of Dargun, Germany, for the first time since he left in 1945 at the end of World War II. Hank was preceded in death by his wife, Jacqueline Hivet Schoknecht, who passed away in October 2007. There are no survivors. A memorial service will be held in March 2010, in Las Vegas. Hank has friends all over the world who will always remember his warm smile and sincere attention.

Celebrated your life and Birthday yesterday with so many fond memories of what an amazing man you were. We still think of you always, and even though the years have passed the memories still remain for me and my family. The lessons of life that you taught me have stilled remained with me and made my life more colorful and happy. Best friend and mentor I could have ever had. Always so gracious and generous. Never expecting anything in return...I know in my heart we will be reunited again. You are missed more than mere words could ever express. I truly am so blessed that God let our paths cross. Little did I know then that a casual meeting would turn into the best friendship I have ever had. Thank you so much for being such a wonderful man with the kindest heart I have ever met. I miss our conversations on life to the wee hours of the mornings. All the great times. Having you to be here to listen and care when I had no one. Always, helping me put the pieces of my life back on track through my marriages. You were always there. Any person to have had the opportunity to get to know you knows just how amazing of a man you were. Through decades you were always here for me.
Until we are reunited dear friend I will keep you close to my heart and in my memories.

As your Birthday gets closer so do my memories of all the great times we have shared. You are truly missed more than any words I can find to describe. You live on in my thoughts and heart with every breath I take. I wish to celebrate your remarkable life and all the awesome lessons you have taught me. For I am truly Blessed to have had you touch my life in such a positive way. When I close my eyes I can see your smile and remember the laughter in your voice, as if it was just yesterday. I will spend your Birthday reflecting on all the great memories of you. To you my friend I send my usual calling card (A Dozen Red Roses). So many happy memories. I love you then, I love you now, I will love you forever & eternity. I miss you so much! XOXOXOX

Hank,
Thank you for being such an important part of my daughter's life. You have always been so important to her and have been such a great friend to her. May God always bless you for being such an amazing man. I cherish the memory you made happen for me. It was one of the biggest highlights of my life. You were so gracious, generous, thoughtful, and kind. I still cherish my picture with very fond memories of you. Your life and the happiness you brought to others should always be remembered. You made sure that I had a magical evening and made it possible for me to meet my favorite singer. You were such a gentleman. Your memory lives on. May God always surround you with the love and kindness you showed to others.
