Helen Meyer Obituary

Helen S. Meyer, 97, of Las Vegas, passed away March 7, 2005. She was born Dec. 14, 1907, in Staunton, Ill., the daughter of Charles Kruse, mayor of Staunton, Ill. She was a homemaker and retired real estate assistant. Helen married her husband of 70 years, Paul E. Meyer, at the age of 21. As mother of two children, Pauline and Charles, she also assisted her husband in his real-estate business for many years. Helen and Paul moved to Las Vegas in 1973 to retire. Helen joined her husband in establishing the Paul E. & Helen S. Meyer Foundation, believing it is greater to truly give back to and help build their community. The Meyer Foundation has not only benefited this community through supporting education in various medias such as KLVX Ready To Learn Programming, scholarship donations, KNPR's Radio Reader Service, and The Nevada Symphony Orchestra. Helen will also be remembered throughout the Spring Valley community by the Helen Meyer Community Center located in the Paul Meyer Park. Because of her role as one of the women who has shaped the first 100 years of Las Vegas, Helen is currently being honored by Women of Diversity at the Las Vegas Art Museum in an exhibit titled, "100 Years of Influence." She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul E. Meyer; and daughter, Pauline Meyer. Helen is survived by her son, Charles Meyer; grandson, Mark Meyer; and granddaughter, Amy Meyer. Helen was laid to rest March 17, 2005.
