John Brimhall Obituary

John Brimhall, 75, of Las Vegas, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2003. John Brimhall is the leading and best selling piano arranger of all time. His publications are used by more students, players and teachers than any other author. John was a prolific author of over 500 books on music composition, theory and performance. His publications sold over 75 million copies bringing musical harmony to millions of piano enthusiasts. He studied concert piano performance at Loyola University, University of San Francisco and Stanford University. After completing his masters degree in concert piano performance, he began his career teaching at the high school and college level. In 1963, he pioneered a new approach to musical education called from "Bach to the Beatles with Brimhall." This new approach became a global success allowing beginning pianists to play the music of the Beatles and simultaneously learn the classical lessons of musical theory. He was a prolific writer who, even in the past year of his life, wrote seventeen publications, several of which have yet to be distributed, His music is published by Hansen Publications, Carl Fischer Publishing and Time Warner Music. He has been a resident of Las Vegas for 22 years. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Virgie; daughter, Mary Brimhall Ales of Mt. Charleston; sons, Anthony Brimhall of Orlando, Fla.. and James Brimhall of Zurich, Switzerland; and six grandchildren, Justin, Jessica, Barney, Virginia, John and Bryce. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 4, with services to follow, both at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Arrangements handled by Palm Mortuary-Jones.
