JOHN MOMOT JR. John Joseph Momot Jr., age 74, of Las Vegas, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2018, in Orange County, California. John was born May 30, 1943, in New Jersey, to John Sr. and Cecelia Momot. John was a "gracious gentleman" who loved family, friends, fishing, baseball, especially the New York Yankees, The Western Cowboy, and his beloved dog, Chloe. John served as a captain in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, moving to Las Vegas in 1973, where he became a well-respected attorney. He was a long time AV rated attorney. This prestigious rating is only obtained by experienced lawyers who have demonstrated both a high degree of skill and high ethical standards over their career. His son, Joseph, died in January 2016. John is survived by his loving wife, Dolly Kelepecz-Momot; brother, Joe; his sister, Lucille Momot Tagie; daughter, Roxanne Morales; and grandchildren, Stella and Jagger. Visitation for John will be from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., Las Vegas, NV 89101. There will be a remembrance of life that evening, 5-6 p.m., with a reception following, at The Keep Memory Alive Event Center, at The Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health, 888 W. Bonneville Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89106. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 30, at Our Lady of Las Vegas Roman Catholic Church, 3050 Alta Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89107. Burial will be at noon Tuesday, May 1, at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Memorial Drive, Boulder City. PALM MORTUARY-DOWNTOWNIn lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in John's name to The Wounded Warrior Project.

Years from now, they will still be referring to him as one of the very best criminal defense attorneys in Clark County history. And the stories and anecdotes will continue to abound.Interestingly, watched part of "Casino" on cable yesterday and saw his scene(s). How many attorneys are preserved for all posterity via a classic movie that will continue to run on television so long as television continues to exist? Very, very few. An incredible life. A remarkable impact.

Roxanne, your parents convinced us to come to Las Vegas many years ago and we will always be thankful to them. Your dad got Rich a job with Judge Christensen and the rest is history. We had many good time with your dad in NY, Chicago and Las Vegas. He was a good guy and will be missed. Our deepest condolences for this great loss. John was a very good friend and colleague since he first started practicing in LV. Always the gentleman, always a quick wit, always prepared and most respected by all.
Gayle and I thought of him often and were just speaking of several of our respective experiences with him a few nights ago. She recalling the anxiety he felt and trust he bestowed in allowing her and her crews full access to redo his offices in the GOBS bldg the weekend just before a 60 minutes interview regarding the Binion case. I regarding many trials we both participated in and even his early days in the Public Defender office. Just seeing John always put a smile on my face.
Gayle and I send our sincerest sympathy but revel in a life well lived. I'm sorry I can't be physically present to pay my respects.
