JORDAN GOODMAN Obituary

DR. JORDAN GOODMAN Dr. Jordan Goodman, Las Vegas obstetrician and gynecologist for nearly 30 years, died Thursday, October 1, at his Las Vegas home surrounded by family. Dr. Goodman was born in 1940 in the Bronx, New York. He attended Christopher Columbus High School and went on to graduate from Brandeis University in 1961. He attended Chicago Medical School and completed his internship and one year of his residency at Beth Israel Hospital in New York. He then served two years in the US Air Force at Nellis Air force Base before completing his residency at the University of California at San Diego. He returned to Las Vegas in 1971 to start his private practice. Dr. Goodman delivered three generations of Las Vegas babies and later focused on menopausal medicine. He loved learning and was always seeking out the newest training and techniques to bring to his patients. He was the first physician in the city to have a laparoscope. He retired in 1998. Dr. Goodman served on the board of Temple Beth Shalom where three generations of his family were members. He was also a member of Rotary International. He never stopped learning and went on to enjoy photography, sailing, Nantucket basket making, furniture building, trap shooting, cooking, sculpting, and playing the cello. He enjoyed watching old war movies and westerns, and he loved the weekly RODEO (Retired Old Doctors Eating Out) lunches with all of his long-time doctor friends. Dr. Goodman and his wife of 57 years, Zelda, met in Chicago on a blind date and were engaged two weeks later. They married in 1963. They have two daughters, Beth (Greg Weisman) and Danielle (Dr. Bradley Strong), and four grandchildren: Erin, Benny, Julia, and Jacob. Lovingly referred to as D.O.D. (Dear Old Dad) and Grampy, his greatest joy in life was being with his family. He loved taking everyone on adventures including family ranch trips, a cruise to Europe, and summers on Nantucket Island, his second home. He is also survived by his brother, Joseph Peilte, and his sister, Renee Rogoff. Donations can be made in Dr. Goodman's memory by contacting the Sarcoma Foundation of America at www.curesarcoma.org.

Condolences and prayers to your family. Dr Goodman was one of the best doctors I ever had. So caring of his patients. He was missed when he retired. Glad to hear he enjoyed his retirement. He deserved it. Your family had one heck of a guardian angel looking out for you

I just found out about the passing of Dr. Goodman, he’d been on my mind a lot lately so I checked the internet and found he had passed.
I worked for Dr Goodman in his office in the early 80’s until I moved out of state. I’ve thought of Dr. Goodman many times over the years. Dr. Goodman was a wonderful doctor to work with and everyday I woke up I looked forward to going into the office. I was sad when we moved away because I knew I’d never find another boss like him, kind, understanding, compassionate, fun and of course a very well respected physician. I have one memory in particular about working in his office.....Barry Manilow on 8 track...over and over again
My heart goes out to Zelda and his wonderful family. I will never forget Jordan Goodman MD.

Dr. Goodman and Zelda were neighbors and friends when we lived in one of the early condominium complexes. We enjoyed their company at several "old time" Vegas restaurants and sharing the growing opportunities for young couples in the Seventies. Dr. Goodman was Kathleen's doctor, always providing knowledgeable and thoughtful care. Our condolences to Zelda and the family. He was truly a doctor who deserved exceptional professional respect and the affecton of his patients.

My sincere condolences to Dr. Goodman’s family. Such a dear, respected doctor who will always have a special place in my heart. He saved my son’s life in his 1977 delivery, assisted my gallbladder surgery in 1978, enrolled me in his group pre-natal classes with Keith Kelvin and safely delivered my daughter in 1980. To this day, our Mothers’ Group which began from our prenatal classes, regularly convenes for support, education and laughs. 40 years ago. Dr. Goodman will be special to us always.

Dr. Goodman was my ob/gyn doctor when we first moved here in 1972. He delivered my second daughter and cared for me for years after. He was a wonderful physician who loved his calling. Thank you for your service to our city.

He was my Dr. until he retired. I was all prepped for surgery in '95 Dr was scrubbed & ready to go, when Sunrise Hospital put a halt saying I'd had a recent heart attack & had to have my cardiologist there. Dr. Goodman waited patiently saying "this is a fine howdy do" then whistled & sang with his hands behind his back for the next hr.
Prayers to the Family

I remember talking to him on the phone when I was looking for a place to practice and he was so encouraging that I couldn’t wait to come out and meet him. The rest is history 42 years later. He was a caring doctor and friend. I will always be in his debt

Condolences to family and loved ones, of course. I met Dr Goodman shortly after moving to Las Vegas in late '75, my wife at the time, now, ex-wife, sigh, needed an OB/GYN, all women should always have a trusted MD of that specialty. Dr. Goodman was friendly, knowledgeable, professional and easy to talk to, truly exemplifying all that is a good physician. He was an iconic physician and I know he will be missed by very very many in Las Vegas. Again, sincere condolences.
