Kory Vasquez Obituary

In Loving Memory of Kory Kirk Vasquez

Aug 26, 1957 - Aug 28, 2021

Kory's favorite time was always dawn. His 4:00 am mantra of 'we're burning daylight - let's take and go' was not just reserved for family fishing trips, but indicative of his zest for life. He loved entertaining, whipping up gourmet feasts, and making everyone laugh (even at his own expense).

Born to Connie and Ron Vasquez in Whittier, California, Kory was always a character. He had a passion for being outdoors, hunting, snow skiing, water skiing, and off-road racing, though his friends would say he never crossed many finish lines due to breakdowns and crashes. He won big, however, when he married the girl of his dreams in 1978. Kory and his wife, Lori, shared many adventures throughout their 40 years together including raising their daughter, Tiffany.

The Vasquez family moved to Las Vegas in 1992. A 'jack of all trades,' Kory worked across different industries - from construction and retail to residential real estate. As an agent for Berkshire Hathaway, he volunteered to play Santa at charity events and take on the role of 'Engineer Bill' as the train conductor for Opportunity Village each year. A big kid himself, Kory loved the little ones and Christmas. He had a special bond with his 9-year old granddaughter, Ryan, checking in on her daily via text if he could not be with her.

If you needed help, Kory was always there. He was a good listener and a true friend. We will miss his post-Thanksgiving turkey tacos, stories about his 17-year old cat, Buckwheat, and laughing at his phobia of lizards. Kory was the life of every party, and at the age of 64, he left us too soon.

His memorial will be held in California on Saturday, September 25th with a private service in Las Vegas at a later date. Kory leaves behind Lori and Tiffany, her husband, Doug, their daughter, Ryan, three brothers and their wives - Jeff and Jacqui, Craig and Charlene, Steve and Angie, his sisters, B-Jae' and Karen (Steve), 13 nieces and nephews, 14 grand-nieces and nephews, and his in-laws, Duane and Gail Van Pelt, Lou and Melody Heida, and Deedee Van Pelt.

The poet Robert Frost said it best... 'as dawn goes down to day, nothing gold can stay.' Kory Vasquez had a heart of gold, and with the dawning of each new day, we know he is still with us.

Services will be private.
