Maryann Pagones Obituary

Maryann Pagones was born in Montpelier, Vermont on December 24, 1928 to Mildred and Thomas Carroll. She passed away at the age of 90, May 5, 2019 in Oro Valley, AZ after a long illness. At the age of 4, Maryann and her family moved to Chicago. Her father passed away from cancer in 1932 when Maryann was just 6 years old. She spent the majority of her youth in Chicago, going to school and enjoying roller and ice-skating. She began working at the Palmer House in Chicago as an Elevator Girl, where she met and married Mike Burns at the age of 17. In the following 7 years Maryann would give birth to 5 children. Michael was born in Chicago. The family then moved to Venice Beach CA., where Patrick and Tommy, were born, and in 1953, because of Mike’s work, the family moved to Henderson, NV where David and Susan were born. In the following years, Maryann would end up a single parent, working and raising her 5 kids on her own and sending them to St. Peter’s School in Henderson and Bishop Gorman. She did a variety of jobs, consisting of door-to-door/telephone surveys (long before computers and robocalls), Avon sales person, and a travel Consultant/ Coordinator. This last job was mostly from the Las Vegas Hilton, where she met and married the love of her life, Stan Pagones in 1975. That same year they moved to Delaware where they ran a Sewing Machine business for many years. They moved to Oro Valley, AZ in 1988 to be closer to family, where they semi-retired. Maryann and Stan enjoyed the next years taking care of grandkids and Maryann working part time at Costco. They also traveled all over the world and spent lots of time with her grown kids and their 11 grandkids, the absolute joy of her life. She also loved her many furry animals that were her family too, and she loved her time with her friends playing Bunco, and Mah-jongg. Maryann was preceded in death by her husband Stan in 1998. She is survived by her 5 children, Michael, Patrick, Tommy (Terry), David (Lisa), Dr. Susan Sharp (Dr. Gary Sharp), her 11 grand children, Dylan (Michelle), Taylor, Bryan (Sara), David (Melissa), Maryann DeSilva (John), Ben (Cori), Reagan, Katie, Sam (Tegan), Catalina and Thomas, and her 4 great grand children, Grayson, Brooks, Elsie, and Samuel. Mary Ann will be cremated, and her ashes along with Stan’s ashes will be interred with her mother (Mildred Carroll) at Palm Mortuary on Main St. The family will gather for a celebration of life at a later date.
