1925 - 2015

MAVIS ARNDT Mavis E. Kopitzke Arndt went to be with her Lord Sept. 1, 2015. She was born June 28, 1925, in Lake Benton, Minn., to Otto and Elsie Kopitzke. Mavis celebrated her 90th birthday this year. She married Eugene F. "Bud" Arndt Sept. 10, 1948. Mavis was the eldest of eight children. Her siblings are Darleen Schesso, Laverna Schwingler, Yvonne Crandall, Orinne Jones, Kenneth Kopitzke, Carol Gregory and Linda Drayton. Mavis has three children, Gretchen F. Olson, Timothy J. Arndt and Nancy A. Gifford; sons-in-law, Eric D. Olson and Alan Gifford; daughter-in-law, Leah Arndt; grandchildren, Kristen L. Olson, Kelsey F. Olson, Molly A. Olson, Katelynn F. Arndt, Nathan A. Gifford and Hannah K. Gifford; as well as great-grandchild, Jade. Mavis attended school in Lake Benton and moved to complete high school in Jordan, Minn. She worked for her paternal aunt and uncle's cafe throughout high school. Mavis later worked for an attorney in Shakopee, Minn., moved to California and finally settled in Las Vegas in the mid-60's with her beloved husband. She worked for the city of North Las Vegas in a variety of jobs. In the legal system, she worked as court reporter and retired in the position of court administrator. Throughout Mavis' life she was very involved in church work. She took pride with singing in the choir and attended the Lutheran Women's Missionary League functions on a regular basis. She enjoyed making crafts for bazaars and baking desserts. Her favorite past time was crocheting, stitching plastic canvas crosses for members and making baby blankets for the newborns at church. She has cherished the family and friends she has had over the years and is grateful for all that they have done. Mavis was a member of First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Las Vegas. Viewing will be 3-7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89123. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 7, at First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 301 S. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89101. Burial following at Palm Valley View Memorial Park. A meal will be served from 2:30-6 p.m. in the parish hall of the church. Mavis has requested that donations be given to First Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in her memory.
