Michael Cox Obituary

Michael Earl Cox (age 77) passed away peacefully on April 3, 2019, at his home in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by his wife, all of his children, and numerous grandchildren. He was the son of Grace Luella Lund and Owen Earl Cox. He married Frances Frehner on August 14, 1965, in the St. George Utah Temple.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; 5 children: Kenneth (Anne Marie), Bryan (Monique), Matthew (Jennifer), Jeffrey (Tamera), and Julie (Robert) — all of Las Vegas; 19 grandchildren; and 2 brothers, Jerrold and Shelby. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carla Johnson.

Born in Carson City, Nevada on February 21, 1942, his family moved to Las Vegas when he was an infant. He cherished wonderful childhood memories growing up in the Huntridge neighborhood, attending John S. Park Elementary and Las Vegas High School. After attending UNR for one year, he served a 2-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Toronto, Canada. In 1966, he graduated in Accounting from Nevada Southern University (now UNLV), and passed the CPA exam shortly thereafter. He spent much of his life serving his fellow man through Church callings and service, including at the Las Vegas Temple and Bishop's Storehouse, as well as being a faithful home teacher.

He loved and was dearly loved by his caring wife, children, grandchildren, and brothers, all of whom will sorely miss his dependable support and reliable wisdom. His posterity hopes to follow his example of faithfulness in the small & simple things.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 9270 S. Maryland Parkway, Las Vegas, Nevada, with visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m.

I was just told today by an old friend of Mike Cox, that he had passed. Jeanne and I, as a young couple, lived in their ward in the mid 1970. Bro. Cox and his wife set such a wonderful example for both Jeanne and I. Sister Cox, may the Lord's comforting Spirit be with you and your family as you mourn his passing.

9 April 2019: Mike Cox was the best friend I ever had or will ever have. He was loyal, wise, dedicated and committed. He was a man without guile or pride. We served together in a bishopric and he served as my Stake Executive Secretary through the building of two new stakes, for 10 years. I constantly turned to him for advice in many diverse matters. I will miss him more than I can tell. May God bless his family.

We send our love and prayers to the family as Mike begins the Fifth Season of his life. He lived a life filled with love for God, his family and friends, and was always generous with his time spent in serving them. Love, Pennie & Chuck Nelson, St. George, UT
