Norman Kennedy Obituary

NORMAN KENNEDY Norman C. Kennedy, 84. I was born in Stratford, Conn., March 19, 1925, and lived there with my parents and one brother until 1932, when we moved to New Rochelle, N.Y. We returned to Stratford in 1937. As a boy, I was active in the Boy Scouts, ran the mile on the high school track team and played the clarinet in the band. I went to college at M.I.T. in Cambridge, Mass., graduating with a degree in general science with my major in meteorology. I served in the U.S. Navy as a meteorological officer in San Francisco, on the island of Guam and with the occupation of Japan. After leaving the Navy, I married my wife, Jan, and worked as a meteorologist for Northwest Airlines in Seattle for 16 years, and then as a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Las Vegas until my retirement in 1985. My hobbies include hiking, canoeing and woodworking. I was active as a Boy Scout leader while our four sons were of Scout age, and more recently, in various leadership positions of The Friendship Force of Las Vegas. Norm is survived by his wife, Jan; brother, Ray; sons, Bruce, Greg, Steve and Ron; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, at First Presbyterian Church, 1515 W. Charleston Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army, Las Vegas Corps.

Norm and Jan have been two beautiful people in my life. Their sons became part of my life when I became associated with Howard Booth, his fellow meteorologist. Norma and Jan's sons reflected the strong character of their parents. Sorry to have missed the funeral Jan, Howard relayed the news of Norm's death to me today. love, john harrington

I will always remember the magic of his the cabin he so generously shared with my family. I think of him whenever I smell pinetrees. Thanks for the wonderful memories Norm.

Norm and Jan hold a very special part in my childhood memories. The times my family spent with Norm at their cabin were filled with good food, games and so much laughter. I also remember Cinco De Mayo parties with Norm wearing a sombrero and dancing with Jan and my sisters. Even as a child, I admired Norm and Jan as a loving and intelligent couple. I'll never forget all our Cinco De Mayo fun and the times spent up at Mt. Charleston with your family. Just walking down the road near his cabin seemed like an adventure with Norm. He was always so interested in everything and everyone around him. My heart goes out to Jan and the family.

Norm Kennedy was a gentleman and a cherished friend. Norm patiently showed me the ropes when I first came to the Las Vegas WSNSO weather office. He was an excellent meteorologist with a craftsman’s attitude and a wonderful sense of humor. My wife and kids loved Norm and Jan…especially enjoying Cinque De Mayo celebrations with them. We treasure Norm’s memories and grieve his loss. Norm was trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent…a good scout.

Norm Kennedy was my Explorer Scout Leader. Because of him I really learned to love the out doors and especially hiking and backpacking. Norm was a fine man and a great family man. I had many great times with his sons. My Deepest Condolences

I wish to express my regrets to the Kennedy family of your lose. I haven't seen or been involved with the Kennedy family for a zillion years, but as a youth you all were a important part of my life. Dan Brust
