Paul Fisher Obituary

Paul C. Fisher, 93, of Boulder City, passed away Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, in Boulder City. He was born Oct. 10, 1913, in Lebanon, Kan. In 1948, Fisher designed and crafted the Bullet pen, one of the most recognizable and copied writing instruments in the world. He later designed the One-For-All refill, which allowed ballpoint pen users to fit virtually any pen with his refill. Fisher is probably best known, however, for his invention of the Space Pen, which contains a pressurized refill and special ink allowing the user to write upside down in zero gravity and in extreme temperatures. The Space Pen was adopted by NASA and first used aboard the Apollo 7 moon flight by Astronauts Armstrong, Aldrin and Colins. Fisher has been the recipient of many awards including the Governor's Distinguished Nevada Business Award (November, 1989), an award from the U.S. Department of Commerce for excellence in promoting exports (July, 1983) and was selected by the Small Business Administration as Small Business Person of the Year for the State of Nevada (1980). Paul is survived by three sons, Cary Fisher of Boulder City, Morgan Fisher of Henderson, and Scott Fisher of Kingman, Ariz.; three daughters, Terry Hough of Fallbrook, Calif., Pomm Hepner of Glendale, Calif., and Marteen Moore of Las Vegas; a brother, Robert Fisher of Lake Forest, Ill.; a sister, Ruth Hall of Davis, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, at St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Boulder City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Andrews Outreach Program, Boulder City, or the Foundation For Accuracy, 711 Yucca St., Boulder City. Boulder City Family Mortuary handled the arrangements.
