Phyllis Mancuso Obituary

PHYLLIS MANCUSO Phyllis Mancuso, 80, passed away unexpectedly and left this world to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Feb. 17, 2011. She was born Feb. 22, 1930, in Rochester, N.Y. She was a 50-year resident of Las Vegas, where she raised her family. She began employment as a civil servant administrator at city hall. It was at this time, she met her future husband, Joseph Mancuso. She had a passion for dancing, especially "the Jitterbug." She would frequent jazz clubs with Joe, where they started a relationship of greater than 50 years. She had a tremendous influence on more lives that can be counted, and was active in the Italian-American community. She was a very outgoing, warm and passionate person, particularly to children and adults, therefore decided to share her gift of compassion and become a long-term nanny to a few fortunate selected families in Las Vegas. Anyone who knew Phyllis knew about her kind spirit. Even at the age of 80, she would still work out in the gym, and do her best to influence others to follow her dedication as a fitness consultant. She was preceded in death by parents, John and Margaret (Formicola) Pezzulo; brother, Tom Pezzulo; and her husband, of 49 years, the one and only, Joe Mancuso. She is survived by her sisters, Jean Burleigh and Noreen Incavo of Rochester, N.Y.; son, Martin Mancuso of Las Vegas; daughter, Adrienne Couch (husband, Allen) of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; son, Dr. Aaron Mancuso (wife, Shonie) of Henderson; grandchildren, Angela, Alicia and Natalie Couch, and Dante and Siena Mancuso; also numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26, at Christ the King Catholic Community Church, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive. There will be a gathering to celebrate her life at the Bootlegger Bistro immediately following at 7700 Las Vegas Blvd.

My deepest sympathy to Rabbit, Aaron, and Adrienne. Your parents were wonderful people and they treated everyone like they were special. They accepted me with open arms right into their home and made me feel like family. Joe told me that everyone knew where they hid the key to the front door and that everyone was always welcome there. They both had a great sense of humor and would always have me laughing. Those were two very exceptional people that touched my heart deeply. I'm very saddened for your loss. Your mom was an excellent woman and she loved her family so much! She was so proud of each of you. Bye, Mama Rabbit....I love you and I miss you...

My deepest sympathy & condolences to Aaron, Martin “Rabbit”, Adrienne and the entire Mancuso family -
My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Phyllis was a wonderful person full of love, kindness & compassion. She was a delight to be with and she always made me feel at home whenever I came over to their house. My late brother Bob Bernier & I loved her very much. Phyllis and Joe were a one-of-a-kind. Joe always had me laughing and smiling throughout the years & I was blessed to have known them in my life. I’ll always remember the warmth & kindness they showed to me & my family. What a nice lady your mother was to everyone. “Mama Rabbit” will always live on in our hearts.
With Much Love,

To the Mancuso family,
Phyllis was such a wonderful person. She was very nice to me and my family. I remember when she was at Alex's christening and she wanted to hold her, during Mass, and Alex just laid in her arms and slept. We still have those memories on video, also, with Aaron and Tanishia as godparents at her christening. We still every now and then look at the video, and how everyone has changed and at age 17, Alessandra still has those memories with her, and she will always remember Phyllis when she looks at the video. Take care, Aaron, Adrienne, Martin, your Mom was a beautiful lady, with a heart of gold.
Friends always,
The Spadaro Family

My heartfelt thoughts and condolences go to the Mancuso and Pezzulo families. Everytime I would come to the house to see Rabbit (Martin) all those years ago, Phyllis and Joe always made me feel at home and always asked how my family was doing, etc. The smell of pasta always in the air. Very positive memories of these two wonderful people will stay with me forever. They made my life all the more sweeter. My prayers are on their way to you Phyllis...

Growing up , I couldn't wait to get over to Aaron's house first thing out of Mrs. M's mouth "are you hungry , let me get you something to eat !" . Phyllis was ALWAYS so gentle and giving . What a great wife and mother , not to mention grandmother . Phileb

Hello, my name is Wayne Romano, Marlene and Russell's older brother. I have fond
memories of Phyllis in Rochester as she was as sweet as her mom, my aunt Margaret.I can recall the fun I used to have on Spencer street in Rochester as I used to terrorize my older cousins, Phyllis and Tommy, who had baby sitting duties watching me.
I moved my family to Las Vegas in 1979 and when I contacted Phillys she insisted that I bring my family over for spaghetti dinner. When we got there we met Joe and when I asked where the kids were Phyllis said they were on the strip singing and dancing on the sidewalks. We thought that was so cool.I have since moved back to Rochester, where I raised my 4 children and currently have 10 grand children. My sincerest condolences to you all as I know you loved Phyllis dearly.
Lovingly, cousin Wayne and my wife Janet.

To my cousin Phyllis Mancuso's family-
Although we've never met, I am Phyllis's cousin Russ Romano of Batavia New York. My mother, Laura Formicola Romano was Phyllis's mother Margaret's younger sister. As a young boy, I can remember my Aunt Margaret visiting my mother at our home on Murray Street in Rochester. As I told your Aunt Noreen the other day at a family dinner event, I still remember Cousin Phyllis's wedding day and especially the wonderful reception at the Powers Hotel in downtown. I may have been 8 or 9 years old but I remember meeting my new cousin, Joe Mancuso. He shared his plans of moving to Las Vegas to become a teacher and play music in the evenings. I am 64 now and the youngest of three. My older brother is Wayne Romano and my sister is Marlene (Romano) Galbraith. They both live in the Rochester area.
My wife, Gillian, and I will keep you in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Your Cousin,
Russ Romano [email protected]

Dr. Mancuso, Adrienne,Martin and the entire Mancuso family I send to you these encouraging words. God is so awesome that he bestowed unto us an angel in your mother Ms. Phyllis. Even more incredible God blessed us all the great gift of rememberance and recall. So whenever you want to remember her, laugh and cry about fond memories, and treasure your mom's time here on earth you're able to do so. Let this be of comfort to you during this transition. We do know for sure she is presently being comforted by the creator. I didn't know your mom but I do know she raised three awesome children who allowed me to see her through them. What a blessing!! If I can be of assistance don't hesitate to contact me. Angela R. Harvey,LSW (UHC)

The world has lost a wonderful person. Phyllis had a rare spark about her that no one will ever forget. (and she made the best potato salad!!) She was filled with love, and an example to me that family and caring about people are the most important things in life. I'm sure her and Joe are dancing together once again. :)) My love to all the Mancusos at this time, especially Aaron and Rabbit.

I have wonderful memories of my Grandma Phyllis. As a child growing up I loved going to visit her and my Grandpa Joe at the home they raised their children in. I loved spending quality time with her. The one thing I remember most about her is how she always made sure everyone else was okay and when you were with her you never went hungry! She was loved and will be missed but, she is a beautiful angel in heaven now shining down on all of us.
