REX ALLRED Obituary

REX ALLRED Rex Leroy Allred, of Las Vegas, took the next step in his life's journey to rejoin his Heavenly Father, Savior and loved ones Nov. 14, 2014. He was born July 17, 1929, in Safford, Ariz., to Calvert Alonzo and Cornelia Cardon Allred. Rex served an LDS mission in the Western States. April 10, 1953, he married Joan Ruthe Page in the LDS Salt Lake Temple, and shared their love for 61 years. His family was first and foremost in his heart and life, and he demonstrated unconditional love always. He was devoted to his wife and dedicated his life to care for her, his daughters, and his son who had multiple limitations due to a traumatic brain injury in his youth. Rex served in the National Guard for two years, and he attended BYU, Arizona State and UNLV earning his bachelor's and master's degrees in education. Rex taught high school math and science in Pima, Arizona and was a math teacher for the Clark County School District until his retirement in 1991 having taught school for a total of 38 years. Many of his former students would stop and greet him as he went about his day to day activities and thank him for his efforts, for not only teaching math, but a work ethic, and inspiration to be successful. Rex's passion for lifelong learning, and great knowledge both secular and spiritual, provided many opportunities for him to teach both adults and youth. He also worked summers as a tour guide at Hoover Dam. His dry sense of humor tickled many and a favorite activity was sneaking in a pun, joke or wisecrack with a straight face. Rex was a man of faith, and served numerous positions in the LDS church with a majority of those being teaching positions. He always extended great service to those in need, often anonymously, even if it meant a sacrifice to himself. He had a great heart and taught his children to be of service. Rex was preceded in death by his parents; and eight of his nine siblings. He is survived by his heart's delight, wife, Ruthe; his two daughters, Cardon Lee, and Karen Jo; his son, Alonzo Page; and his youngest sister, Geraldine Neilson; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the LDS Paradise Stake Center, 1725 Palora Ave. Visitation will be 4:30-6:30 pm., Friday, Nov. 21, at the Paradise Stake Center. Burial will follow the services Saturday at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to the LDS Church Humanitarian Fund, Opportunity Village, (a non-profit organization serving those with intellectual and physical disabilities) or the Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.

Dear family of Mr. Allred, which in my mind he will always be, since he was one of my teachers at Pima School. He was such a fine person and I had so much respect for him. He always tried to help you and encourage you. I know how dedicated he was to his family and how much he loved you. He is one of the teachers I will always remember from school days. I wish you peace at this time. Mary Jean Alder
