I would like to extend my deepest sempathy to the Ewing Family.
I new that this day would come as it does for every one but I know in my heart that it is harder for some of us than others.I started working for Ewing Bros. at the age of 16 with long hair,an attitude and an old hotrod Pontiac that refused to be parked outside and across the street before the the freeway and Papa Rex's new office space and upstairs were built at 1200 N, A street. I met papa Rex real Quick and I learned that he was the Boss, He did not like long hair and I would be getting a haircut under no circumstances and I would like it that way. I also learned who signed my check after Francis made them out .I was taught respect and also lost my attitude ! I also felt that I was part of the family after some adjustments on my part.I left Ewing Bros. 4 or 5 times in the first year or so when painters changed and for some reason Joe Somoya would always call me back to work. Every time I came back it was back to the Barber chair and another attitude adjustment. At the age o 17 Little Rex and his father fired the Painter at main street shop and made me the Painter. They intrusted me with a job as a man with the responsibility that came with it. I could write book on the lessons that I got from Papa Rex and the knowedge that he gave me. He was more than a Boss. He was my Mentor, teacher, and father that I needed at a young age.
I will never forget him, still today if I am presented with problem I say to myself, WHAT would Papa Rex do about this....
He Truly a Giant among the Giaints, A Man among Men,a Great Father among the BEST and a LEGEND that will be respected and remembered in many hearts.. God Bless You Papa Rex and thank you for everything that you have done for me and so many others!!

Though the Life Force in your Vessel has been extinguished, your Soul and Legacy lives on. The countless lives you touched are eternally bettered.
At times we did not see eye to eye, but the knowledge and wisdom you instilled in me has helped shape my life. Your charismatic leadership skills and unrelenting internal drive are qualities I cherish in my own endeavors. Two of your popular sayings energize this: “I must hurry, for there they go and I am their leader,” and “I can't seem to get the re in front of tired.”
There are no Good-Byes, so ascend and enjoy the journey.
Your Ever-Loving Son,
NCE

Sincere condolences from the Salisbury family to all the Ewings. I was honored to have the chance to listen to stories of early Las Vegas, from a gifted storyteller with a remarkable memory. The producers of "Vegas" should have talked to him, along with Ralph Lamb. I know Rex will be missed by many, including me.

To the Ewing family all my sympathy for their loss. I worked for the Ewings as a body repairmen and drove a tow truck after hours in the early or mid 70's. My best memery of Rex is the hunting trips up to Ely Nevada with all his friends, and family along with the fun times.
Las Vegas is a better place because or Mr Ewing.

I remember him walking up the stairs always putting his hand out, telling me he needs a hand. How he moved around like he was young. Telling me how he built Ewing Bros from ground up, and did i know who owned this place. He will be missed by many. The day him and dot went on their date they both were so excited. He was a strong person. Thanx for the opportunity he gave me. He lived a good long life..

A true Gentleman to all. His laugh would put a smile on your face, his enthusiasm to work everyday made you feel youthful. He is and always will be the Forefather of the Towing Industry in Nevada and a man I will truly miss. Godspeed Rex, you will never be forgotten.
