Robert Hansen Obituary

ROBERT HANSEN Robert David "Bob" Hansen, 70, of Las Vegas, outgrew planet Earth and successfully completed the requirements for his death certificate April 14, 2010. He made this transition to an energy that better suits his needs while being cared for comfortably and relaxing at his home in Las Vegas. He is survived by his domestic partner, of 22 years, Caxton Manray. Robert was born Nov. 22, 1939, in San Francisco, with upbringing in Fresno, Calif., where he first entered the workforce there with his father's construction business. After two years in the U.S. Air Force, he completed his business degree at USC and started the managerial climb within the ranks of Transamerica Life in Los Angeles. A short assignment in Toronto, Canada, then turned into a 10-year executive position working for Transamerica Life Canada there. He relocated to the Kansas City area in 1988 as CEO of a Transamerica lab subsidiary start up in Shawnee Mission, Kan. Upon completing that operation, he took an early retirement over having to return to Los Angeles. With new gusto, he redirected his energy into real estate as a top agent, first with Eugene D. Brown Realtors and then with Re/Max First Realtors. After then selling his home in Leawood, Kan., in 1997, Robert along with his partner, bought a house in Las Vegas. Robert, still not able to sit still in retirement, went back to school and got a masters degree in accounting from the University of Nevada. He also took IT classes at the College of Southern Nevada, and was recognized as the Outstanding Student of 2007-2008 in engineering and computing technology. Then as a professor of accounting, he taught full-time at CSN up until the final semester of 2009. Robert was cremated and will be interred next to his grandmother and parents at the Chapel of the Light Funeral Home in Fresno. A memorial service is planned there April 14, 2011, the anniversary of his passing. With this sudden and sooner than expected event, Caxton is okay and managing fine along with being available for friends and associates to help with questions and concerns.

What might not be generally known was the entrepreneural side of Bob. I had the privilege of having him on a Board when I was Chairman. His enthusiasm and new ideas in developing new blood testing equipment was an inspiration. He was a generous colleague and for some 4 years he came to England regularily developing these new ideas. He was a kind host as well and my wife and spent a lovely few days in his apartment in Palm Springs. We shall miss his cheerful character and dry sense of humour. Timothy Royle

I was surprised and sad to hear that Bob has passed. I regret that we lost touch after his move to Las Vegas. I remember many good times during our Transamerica days, Palm Springs visits, and the time in Kansas City. His dedication to continuous learning is an inspiration.

Dear Bob,
You were a gifted friend who enjoyed fun; or you could be very serious. How much we enjoyed conversations with you at Church.
God bless you on your journey.

I was so saddened by Bob's passing. He will remain in my heart forever. Not only was he a great teacher, but a great friend. I will miss our conversations regarding books, politics and cars. I only wish that I had known him longer.
